Friends of the UP Public Library Announce Summer Events

The Friends of the University Park Public Library invite bookworms to stay cool this summer by diving into their next great read — along with the Holmes Aquatic Center pool — while supporting their local library.

Annual Splash Bash

The Friends of the University Park Public Library will host its annual Splash Bash fundraiser from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 20, at the Holmes Aquatic Center.

Tickets are $25 for adults, and $15 for children 12 and younger. Tickets include pool entry, dinner, drinks, party favors, music, and more. Vegetarian and gluten-free options will be available. Click HERE to purchase splash bash tickets.

Complete Landsculpture has generously sponsored the Splash Bash for the last ten years. The event is also supported by The Hopper Family and The Campbell Family.

Second Chapter Book Sale

Book lovers can find new favorites during the Second Chapter Book Sale fundraiser from 12 to 5 p.m. on Friday, May 30, and 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, May 31, at the University Park Public Library.

The sale will feature deals on adult fiction and non-fiction, as well as children’s books, games and puzzles. A special collection of upscale, like-new coffee table books will be on display to purchase from 3 to 5 p.m. on Friday only.

There will be a members-only presale from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Friday, May 30. Nonmembers who would like to gain access to the presale can join the friends by visiting uplibraryfriends.org/friend.

Meet Me at the Library

Meet Me at the Library presentations are held in the library’s third floor community room at 7 p.m. Light refreshments are served at 6:30 p.m. The programs are free and open to all. Reservations are appreciated, but not required. Upcoming presentations are:

  • May 6: Courtney Kelly will share her journey as the self-published author of two children’s books based on her career as a civil engineer. Kelly has sold more than 5,000 copies of her books in less than two years. Click HERE to register.
  • June 10: Bestselling author and former CIA analyst David McCloskey will discuss his latest spy novel, The Seventh Floor, and how it reflects the real world of the espionage business and the CIA. McCloskey will also talk about the challenges facing spy agencies today, with a focus on the CIA in particular. Click HERE to register.
  • July 8: Professor and independent researcher Holly Stevens will share the incredible story of Otto Koehler and The Three Emmas. Koehler, who was president of Pearl Brewery in San Antonio, began affairs with two women named Emma while married to a third, also named Emma. One of the three Emmas shot him dead in 1914, an act which led to a murder trial. Click HERE to register.
