HP Recognizes Public Safety Telecommunicators

Highland Park thanked its “unseen first responders” — public safety telecommunicators providing crucial assistance to residents in times of crisis — during an April 15 town council meeting.

Mayor Will C. Beecherl read a proclamation recognizing April 13 to 19 as National Public Safety Telecommunicator Week in the Town of Highland Park.

Public safety telecommunicators “have provided critical assistance to our residents in times of great need, and their specialized skills and calm presence are invaluable to the Town of Highland Park,” Beecherl read from the proclamation.

In other business, the town council voted to permit the installation of artificial turf for playing fields or other athletic uses by public schools, universities, and government facilities.

The approved amendment to the town’s code of ordinance also limits turf colors and materials, and adds installation and maintenance requirements. The town included a requirement for blade length that only applies to residential installations.

The town council also amended Highland Park’s construction screening requirement to mandate that mesh material on screening fences be six to eight feet in height.
