The iconic ‘little white house’ on Preston Road near Northwest Highway that has long been an office for Ebby Halliday Realtors remains a landmark at the intersection but, just behind it, the former home of the grand dame of North Texas real estate herself is no more as of Tuesday.
The 3,710-square-foot home on Preston Road near Northwest Highway was built in 1967 and, as we reported in February, was owned by the Ebby Halliday Foundation, the charitable organization set up after Halliday’s death in 2015, until it was recently acquired by Gabriel and Ann Barbier-Mueller, per county records. Barbier-Mueller owns a property next to Halliday’s former home at 8515 Preston Road, which is also near a lot owned by Mark Cuban.
“A large portion of the proceeds from the sale went to local charities benefiting women and children in need. Those closest to Ebby believe that is just how she would have wanted it,” said Steve Smith, vice president of marketing at Ebby Halliday Companies. “Reworking the interior of a one-bedroom home would have cost more than the property’s value. Ebby’s Little White House at the corner of Northwest Highway and Preston Road was not part of the sale and there are absolutely no plans to alter it in any way.”
Smith said a portion of the proceeds from the sale of Ebby’s former home benefited charities for women and children and for those facing food or housing insecurity.
“Donations from the sale of Ebby’s former home have already been made to three of her favorite charities: Happy Hill Farm/Academy, The Ebby House at Juliette Fowler Communities and The WiNGS Center at Ebby’s Place,” Smith added. “For Ebby, a successful life was about much more than extraordinary sales figures. Her other great passion was service to the community she proudly called home. All of these causes have a common theme of helping women and children in need – something that was always close to Ebby’s heart.”
