Preston Road Construction Begins Tuesday

Work crews began roadwork Tuesday morning in the 5100 to 5500 blocks of Preston Road, an area bordered by Beverly Drive to the south, and Potomac Avenue to the north, the town of Highland Park announced.

Phase II of the Preston Road improvement project will require a temporary lane shift on Preston Road in order to facilitate the replacement of the existing pavement. The lane shift will transition motorists to a single lane of traffic in the work zone, one lane north bound and one lane southbound.

The timing and cycle pattern for the traffic light at intersection of Preston Road and Mockingbird Lane has been modified to accommodate the lane adjustments. Motorists are encouraged to seek alternate routes in order to avoid traffic delays, particularly during peak travel times, town officials said.

The speed limit will be reduced to 20 MPH within the work zone to promote safety.

Vertical barricades, lane delineators, and signage will be utilized to configure the modified lanes of traffic.

Traffic turn signs will be used on the following streets north of Mockingbird Lane for traffic safety: Potomac Avenue, St. Andrews Drive, and San Carlos Drive. An entry/exit point to businesses will be maintained.

The Preston Road Phase II Project is anticipated to be completed in late spring 2019, weather permitting. Updates on the project will be posted to the Town’s website,, and Twitter pages (@HP_Texas and @HPDPS_TX).
