Skulduggery of the week: Mercedes Madness
Between 8:30 p.m. on May 12 and 12:45 a.m. on May 13, a thief stole a white 2010 Mercedes sedan in the 4300 block of Belclaire Avenue. The vehicle’s owner left the car unlocked in a driveway porte-cochere and left the keys inside. The car was later found abandoned in the 4500 block of Versailles Avenue. Antonio Edward Morales, 23, of Dallas was arrested on charges of criminal trespass and burglary of a motor vehicle. He was found with a garage-door opener that was traced to an iron gate at a different house in the same block, where a gold 2007 Mercedes had been rummaged through during the same time frame.
At 2 a.m., Jeffrey Ross White, 39, of Carrollton was arrested in the3600 block of Euclid Avenue on a charge of driving while intoxicated.
Between 5:30 p.m. on May 8 and 7:10 a.m. on May 11, a thief stole four North Star power washers, with a combined value of $3,000, from a construction site in the 4700 block of Preston Road.
At 8:12 a.m., a Frisco man called HP police after his black 2012 Suzuki sedan was impounded in the 4400 block of Lorraine Avenue. The car’s owner said he loaned it to a friend and hadn’t seen it in several weeks. The “friend” later told him that it had been stolen at the Galleria, and that she threw away the keys, but that she didn’t want a stolen-vehicle report filed and wouldn’t talk to the police. When the cops found the car, however, the keys were in the console.
Between 8 p.m. on May 10 and 9:30 a.m. on May 11, a thief stole a brown 2013 Mercedes sedan, valued at $50,000, in the 2900 block of University Boulevard. The crook also took $200 worth of clothing inside the car.
Between noon on May 8 and 12:28 p.m. on May 11, a thief stole a new $286 basketball goal still in its original box from an unlocked closet inside a carport in the 3600 block of Binkley Avenue.
At 3 p.m., a shoplifter stole a $20 PowerXcel power bank from the CVS store at Park Cities Plaza. The miscreant was caught and given a citation.
At 1:10 p.m., Cooper Samuel Chaltas, 18, of University Park was arrested in the 6400 block of Dickens Avenue on an assault charge.
Between 7:15 and 9:20 p.m., a burglar broke into a white 2009 Mercedes sedan at The Plaza at Preston Center and stole a $500 iPad and a $50 bag.
At 1:40 a.m., a driver reported a black 2012 Hyundai sitting idle in the middle of the 6600 block of Thackery Street with someone inside. Rebecca Leslie Wilk, 19, of University Park was arrested on charges of possession of cocaine and public intoxication.
At 2:27 a.m., a noise complaint prompted officers to bust a boisterous house party in the 3800 block of Centenary Drive, where they knocked on the front door of a house before spotting several revelers trying to flee through the alley. Jake Winston Potter, 20, of University Park was arrested on a charge of consumption of alcohol by a minor. Another partier was given a citation for possession of a fictitious license.
