Skulduggery of the week: Friday Night Foolishness
At 10:36 p.m. on Jan. 23, police noticed two empty Bud Light cans and a vodka bottle in the front yard of a house in the 3400 block of Drexel Drive. Officers stopped a tipsy teenager on the sidewalk who said he came from the house, drank a “few beers,” and was trying to catch an Uber ride home. Then an adult houseguest emerged, claiming to have been sleeping and unaware that there were so many kids in the house drinking. Among those in attendance, five teens were cited for minor in consumption, including one that had altered the date of birth on his ID. When the homeowner arrived after dinner, he didn’t admit to any knowledge of the party. Another officer chased a Jeep Wrangler to the 3200 block of St. Johns Drive, where two 17-year-olds had parked while unsuccessfully trying to elude capture. They admitted to coming from the same party.
At 10:43 a.m., the driver of a gray 2011 Mercedes ML3 struck a curb and a crosswalk sign in the 4800 block of Auburndale Avenue while talking on a cell phone. The driver agreed to pay the $100 in damages.
At 2 a.m., Sherri Lynne Haskins, 41, of Highland Park was arrested in the 4700 block of Drexel Drive on a charge of driving while intoxicated following a traffic accident.
At 2:45 p.m., a resident of the 4500 block of Rheims Placereported that the stones in a pair of 14-karat gold diamond stud earrings had been replaced with cubic zirconia stones. The earrings hadn’t been worn for at least six months, and the theft was discovered when the earrings were taken in for repair. The owner provided police with a sales receipt that showed the earrings were purchased for $9,800 in 2009.
At 2:36 a.m., William Creed Rannefeld, 26, of San Marcos was arrested in the 4400 block of Lakeside Drive on a public intoxication charge.
At 8:16 p.m., a shoplifter stole $26 worth of Revlon wrinkle filler from the CVS store at Park Cities Plaza. The thief was cited for theft.
At 4 a.m., Helen Lorena Hargan, 21, of Dallas was arrested in the3000 block of Mockingbird Lane on a public intoxication charge.
Between 9:45 and 9:53 p.m., a burglar broke into a blue 2001 GMC Yukon in the 2800 block of Westminster Avenue and stole a $225 Pioneer after-market stereo and a $200 Garmin GPS unit.
