Dan Branch Endorses Morgan Meyer

Rep. Dan Branch, who is vacating his HD 108 seat in hopes of becoming attorney general, has announced today that he is endorsing Republican candidate Morgan Meyer, whose campaign against Chart Westcott has attracted significant attention statewide.

“In this race, I admire both men and their families,” Branch said in a statement. “It was always my intention to stay neutral, but this week a line was crossed.”

Branch went on to speak well of Meyer’s judgment, insight, and temperament and express his belief that Meyer would serve the community well. Branch has held the HD 108 seat for more than 12 years.

The hits just keep coming for Charty Boy. This is getting embarrassing for him and his family at this point. Oh well, they certainly deserve it after the classless campaign they’ve bankrolled!

Wow. I really appreciate that people are publicly saying that this campaign went too far. MAYBE others will think twice before doing something similar. Chart had no chance of winning based on his record anyway, but the fallout from the negativity and lies is really mounting. As I said before it will be very difficult for him to recover from this both personally and professionally in the Dallas community. I have to wonder if his parents thought all of this was a great idea. If he had been mine I would have spoken up loud and clear that this was not a good idea and not at all how a person of integrity behaves.

This might be the only political race I’ve ever seen in which commenters wonder if his parents are pleased with this decision. Isn’t he like 28? He’s not a puppet politician.

@AnotherMother – Then you must not have met the Westcotts. They’re how “new money” got a bad connotation as being flashy and tasteless.

I’m sure Carl and Jimmy were calling the shots all along; Chart was bankrolling the majority of his smear campaign with their checkbook.

Hopefully this will teach them all you can’t buy everything you want and that lying and cheating will always catch up to you.

Somehow I doubt Chart’s family are are having that conversation with him or each other. They are funding his campaign, so not only do they approve of everything the campaign is doing, they are active participants.

I know what they’re thinking: “Our son may be an unfocused waste of space, but he’s Einstein compared to that slack-jawed dwarf Huffines. So let’s hire that guy’s political consultants and catch lightning in a bottle a second time!”

It’s almost Tuesday. Keep calm and finish him.

@D Johnson – well, who do you think is funding his 7 figure campaign? He is not self made thus the money is not coming from his pockets. It is his family and parent’s friends assisting him with the finances, thus the puppet politician is not really that far off.

    D Johnson,

That’s the point, he IS a puppet politician. Given their financial involvement, I’d think that his parents are not only pleased with his decision, they probably made the decision.

What a happy day! No more political ads in my mailbox! The bottle with Morgan’s face on it was the last straw for Chart’s campaign. How tasteless can you get? On the other hand, Morgan’s transparency in his recent letter was both brave and smart. I am not one to voice my political preferences or reveal how I vote, but I’ve made an exception with this race. It’s time for Chart to go home. Morgan Meyer all the way!

@D. Johnson – Normally I wouldn’t even give a thought to what a politician’s parents think about a race. But in this case I knew that Chart’s parents were funding most of his campaign, that his current and only job has been working for his parents and that his lifestyle has been solely dependent upon his parents. Additionally he is young and inexperienced. Given all that I presume someone is advising him. I don’t know the Westcott’s so I have no idea what they would think is reasonable, and that is why I wondered what they might be thinking.
It will all be over soon. Thank goodness.

It will be nice to answer the doorbell and NOT have it be someone hired by Chart to remind me when and where to vote. And to leave another yard sign. And post it note on my door. The facebook ads were over the top Chart. No class.

How to stop Chart’s hired people from ringing your doorbell:
It might be a little late, but this will work leading up to the main election as well. Open the door, smile, snigger a bit, and say: “I’m so sorry, but we’re a Democrat household”. They’ll check their little chart (pun intended), mark you off, and never return.
