St. Mark’s Boys Win in Regionals For Tech Design

Armed with a concept for camera-enabled glasses to help blind people see, four St. Mark’s boys are now regional finalists in this year’s ExploraVision contest. Winners of the national science and technology competition are set to get $10,000 in savings bonds, and they’ll be named in around two weeks — hopefully with eighth-grader Gopal Raman and freshmen Raja Akula, Rohan Banerjee, and Rishav Sinha among them.

From contest spokeswoman Katherine Higuera-McCoy:

Right now the team has just submitted a website for national judging. The national winners will be announced at the end of this month, tentatively on Tuesday, April 30 or Wednesday, May 1. If St. Mark’s school is announced as a national finalist they will be heading down to Washington, D.C. from June 5-8 for a fun weekend filled with a visit to Capitol Hill, the science fair, and the awards gala.

The students will all be flown down to D.C., all expenses paid, with their families, coaches, and team mentors. There will be eight teams selected — four first-place and four second-place in each grade category.
