Young Men’s Service League to Give Ultimate Gift

This is the Young Men's Service League's Highland Park chapter's class of 2014.

Bad behavior by teenagers has dominated our blog this week. So let’s discuss the opposite end of the spectrum.

The Young Men’s Service League is an organization with 32 chapters in five states, including a Highland Park chapter. When they enter the ninth grade, boys make a four-year commitment to the program, which strengthens mother-son relationships through community service.

This fall, various YMSL chapters are conducting service projects under the “Ultimate Gift” banner. The Highland Park chapter will present its Ultimate Gift to Heart House Dallas, an organization that offers after-school care at the Wildflower apartments at 8515 Park Lane. The chapter will host a carnival there from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, when kids will play fun games and make crafts.

“Ultimate Gift is a special time for YMSL,” said Pam Rosener, its co-founder and president. “It’s an opportunity for all our chapters to work together over a few weekends on projects that help homeless moms and children. This has become one of our greatest efforts and one that we are most proud of. Last year, we served 2,500 hours and provided improvements to facilities of over $50,000. Homelessness is everywhere, and it affects so many women and children that it has become the heart of our gift back to the community.”
