Your Kid Could Fly Above ‘Little Mermaid Jr.’ Sets

The cast includes Kennedy Hermansen as Arista, Harrison Gossett as Flounder, and Katie Krasovec as a mermaid.

When students from Highland Park Middle School and McCulloch Intermediate School perform in The Little Mermaid Jr. this weekend, some of them will soar above the stage. Thanks to the effects wizards at ZFX, it will appear as if seagulls are flying and fish are swimming.

Your children could join them in the air. The Jesters and Players Booster Club will raffle auction off two 20-minute flights above the stage. Raffle tickets will be sold during ticket sales; tickets will be available during lunch periods this week, as well as 30 minutes prior to each performance. A few ground rules:

  • Students in grades 3-8 will be eligible to win.
  • Winners must weigh less than 175 lbs. and be in good physical condition.
  • Winners must sign insurance indemnification before flying.
  • Flights may be videotaped or photographed, but equipment operation and design may not.

Winners will be drawn Thursday at the opening-night performance, and they will be notified by phone. Flights will take place after Friday’s and Saturday’s performances.

Performances are scheduled for 7 p.m. Thursday, 4 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday, and 2 p.m. Sunday. Musical tickets are $5. So are raffle tickets, but you can get five of them for $20. For questions, contact Traci Schuh at

    That’s not an auction, it’s a raffle.

And the Little Mermaid is named Ariel, not Arista.

Arista was a record label that was big in the late 1970s.

Arista is a character in the stage production that is not in the movie. There are several additional characters in the Broadway/Jr Version of the stage production.

That’s what I get for only having boys.
