HP to Reap $100k From Cell Antennas

The Highland Park Town Council approved an increased lease payment for cell antennas on the town’s water tower Monday.

Lessees will now pay $4,166 per month to lease space on the water tower, an increase from the current $2,500 per month. Five companies — AT&T Mobility, Metro PCS, Sprint Spectrum, T-Mobile, and Verizon Wireless — lease space on the tower.

Leases are subject to a 3 percent annual escalation; the new fees are expected to bring the city an additional $99,960 per year. The first long-term lease agreement for tower space was entered into in October 1996, according to city documents.

    Hyer needs one on top of it. The reception in that neighborhood is awful.

    Saffie- It’s just a renewal of current leases, so I imagine it won’t affect the coverage.

    Too bad. I agree with @grump. I love how we get “call fail” right at Daniel & Hillcrest. Drives me nuts!

    Great, let’s redo a park. Or at least rename it.

    Sorry, I just had to do it.

    While we’re doing this, do think we could put up an antenna or booster for 1190AM so we can at least listen to HP Scots FB games without static? Reception is pitiful in the PC and almost non-existent once you get more than 5 miles outside of town.

    What happened to all the talk about having free HP WiFi, guess it was all talk. But what a great idea, right?

    @GMOM,

    This could have been a prime opportunity for free wifi in HP, given that there are 5 carriers on HP’s water tower.

    Simply said, looks like some HP council members left goodies on the table.

    You get what you vote for.
