Last night, a two-story condo on the 18th floor of One Arts Plaza was filled with TACA patrons feasting on Mexican food and sipping wine. The intimate group of close friends laughed and let loose, which resulted in some interesting comments.

But the comment of the evening definitely comes from Mary McDermott Cook, art patron and philanthropist-about-town.

Here’s the set up:

Hal Brierley was talking about the Dallas Center for the Performing Arts and the need to keep up the donations during this time in the economy. At one point, he started talking about the dot-comers, Mary chimed in and started talking about her college reunion, and then she said:

I’m an old fart.

It’s hard for me to remember how one thing led to the other, but sometimes, a punchline doesn’t need a set up.
