Scots 52, Pearce 10, Final

It’s all over at Eagle-Mustang Stadium. The Scots win, 52-10, to improve to 6-0 (3-0).

HP will have a short week to prep for its next game, which will be at Carrollton R.L. Turner on Thursday night at Standridge Stadium.

The Scots have now won 42 straight district games and 44 straight regular-season games.

Scots 38, Pearce 10, End 3

The Scots are 12 minutes away from being 6-0.

I Spy A Spy?

Photographer Jeremy Chesnutt reports that a man filming HP’s sideline, including huddles during timeouts, has been escorted from the stadium.

Here are some stats:

Wild One in Richardson

It was a crazy first quarter at Eagle-Mustang. The Scots lead 21-10. Both teams have 77-yard TD passes.

Decorating for TX/OU

In today’s real estate section, there’s a product page of decorating ideas for this weekend’s big game. Here’s a couple other items that didn’t make the cut:

Available in a 5′4″x7′8″ [$179] and 7′8″x10′9″ [$379] at Home Depot

Bevo Hooks up With Our Sales Staff For Lunch

Molly Nolan from our sales staff, who is just about the only person in her family to not attend the University of Texas, surely made her kinfolk jealous this afternoon by meeting Bevo during a cookout on Stanford Avenue. The event was sponsored by Reunion Title and Allie Beth Allman & Associates. “The burgers were good, Bevo was great, and seeing everybody was really fun,” reports Molly, a UNT alum. Burgers? That explains why Bevo looks so depressed.

New Traffic Pattern

Sweet cops are swarming UP Elementary handing out the new maps of traffic flow for carpool lanes that will begin Tuesday. Study up.

Literally Overheard …

… In Highland Park Village, a woman talking on her cellphone, presumably to someone she was about to rendezvous with:

“I just got my toenails done, so I’m in workout gear and flip-flops, so you’ll have to forgive me.”

Are You Ready for OU/Texas?

I am! And all I have to say today is BOOMER SOONER! Any predictions on the score? The person who gets the closest guess will receive $50 to Cafe Pacific.

UPDATE: In order to be eligible to win, you must submit your score by 5 p.m. TODAY.

Tesar Gets Another Nod

By now you’ve probably heard that the Mansion Restaurant was named one of the Best New Restaurants of 2008 by John Mariani, food and travel correspondent for Esquire magazine. I agree that the restaurant is wonderful, but why is it considered new? Tesar explains:

“It’s really amazing that we are honored as one of the Best New Restaurants of 2008, because we’ve been around for 27 years,” he said. “It shows that people are paying attention and they recognize the Mansion’s reinvention as an entirely new experience, offering more than just one dining option.”

I’m still stuck on the “new” thing.

Scots Face Pearce Tonight at Eagle-Mustang

The Highland Park football team will carry its perfect record on the road tonight to take on rival Pearce at 7:30 p.m. at Eagle-Mustang Stadium.

The Mustangs come into the game with a 2-3 overall record. Pearce is 1-1 in District 10-4A with a 56-8 win over R.L. Turner and a 38-27 loss to Royse City. The Scots are 5-0 (2-0) and are averaging 51.6 points per game.

Pearce is the last team to beat HP in a district game. The Mustangs topped the Scots, 47-44, in triple overtime, in the 2001 district opener. HP has since rattled off 41 straight district wins. It’s a pretty safe bet No. 42 happens tonight.

I’ll Drive Slower, I Swear

I’ve been working here in the south end of Highland Park for just over three weeks, and I’ve yet to be pulled over by HP’s finest. But I just had a close call as I returned from lunch. An HP DPS SUV [acronym overload!] was hiding parked in an alley on Wycliff/Fitzhugh just as I sped over from Central Expressway on my way back to the office. I either slowed down just in time, or the officer had mercy on me. Anybody else been asked to produce their license and registration lately?

Live From the McCulloch Supply Room

It’s a rough day in the trenches of the supply room, trying to meet the needs of kids with, well, needs. We’re out of the hottest items and we were stunned by the best question of the day:

Can you exchange foreign currency?

Carpool Complaints

I don’t mean to intrude on Merritt’s beat, but the Hyer carpool line, at least at the front entrance on Caruth, was a mess this morning.  Partly this is due to it being Bike Rodeo Day, and dozens of kids and parents who don’t normally ride were riding their bikes to school this morning.  What I observed is that the kids know bike rules better than the parents: I saw three different parents veer from the sidewalk into the street without looking, and two of them went through stop signs at full speed with their heads turned backward to watch their kids (who stopped at the stop signs).

And in a continuing problem made worse this morning because of the heavier traffic, the crossing guards must be trained to alternate letting cars and pedestrians pass.  Currently, the crossing guards will hold up all traffic for as long as it takes to let pedestrians cross, even if the pedestrians are still half a block from the intersection.  The back-up of cars on Caruth reached three blocks.

Alternate.

That is all.
