Wrong answer. It’s because boys have cooties and you don’t want to get them. Duh, Merritt.

Cotillion is when my dad taught me how to tie a tie. That’s about the only thing I took away from that whole ordeal.

If you missed Cotillion and never learned to tie a tie, there’s 7th grade football. Most boys agree that it’s a much more enjoyable reason to learn to tie the dreaded tie.
You have to wear gloves because the boys’ hands are so sweaty. At least that’s what I overheard from the carloads of St. Mark’s boys that I drove to cotillion in years past.
bc, does that mean you couldn’t waltz with me right now?

Wonder if this is where the kids learn the “dirty dancin’ moves.

Does the young man in the foreground, dancing with the tall young lady, have a BEARD??!! Maybe it’s just the angle…

Merritt, if you drink enough, you can usually pull off any dance required. Bet they don’t teach that in Cotillion. I remember getting a silver dollar for winning the twist contest 16 years ago (I went to Cotillion at Royal Oaks), so I’ve got that going for me, which is nice…

Torture, yes. Necessary, no.
If your kid didn’t want to do it, you could have donated the fee to the Fund for Underwear for Riders of Mechanical Bulls.

BC, that is so funny! My daughter just got a silver dollar at cotillion 2 weeks ago for “judging” the Cotton-Eyed Joe contest. Funny thing: they told the kids to yell out “Cornflakes!” in the song’s chorus, rather than the more traditional (but scandalous) “Bull****!” On the drive home that day, I had 6 kids all asking me “Why do we have to yell CORNFLAKES????”

Mr Dick Chaplin passed away a little over 5
years ago.
Young ladies have to wear white gloves
because at most formal dances white gloves
are required.
The students say cornflakes because it is
alot nicer than the other word.
Silver dollars are given out to the couple
who is dancing correctly.
Silver dollars are not longer in production

Speaking of Cotillion, what ever happened to Dick Chaplin?
