Frontburner has what one might call “facts” — let’s bring the anecdotal evidence to Overheard. Is University Park resident Dan Branch’s poll right? Could Obama pull an upset in District 108?
I know of at least one high-profile Highland Park homeowner who favors Obama. And I know we’ve had one canceled subscription as a direct result of our last editorial.
Count the yard signs on your street. What do they say?
You can’t count on the yard signs to help determine who the Parkies are voting for. My block has a lot of McCain signs and zero Obama signs. I for one wouldn’t dare put an Obama sign out there, because I live alone and would like to remain on friendly terms with my neighbors. I don’t want any NRA types using my dogs for target practice. Besides yard signs don’t mesh well my cottage garden theme.
I know of 2 households across the street that are for Obama. Yet they would rather not advertise this fact with a sign. We Obama folks are tastefully discreet.
Woops:
don’t mesh well “with” my cottage garden theme.
Jason,
I am getting nothing with your link to Mr. Allison’s editorial is this it?

As a lifelong Republican, I feel the same. I am definitely voting for Obama, but wouldn’t make it known around here.
Come on people, it’s just politics! You should display your Obama signs and McSame bumper stickers with pride.
District 108 has 138,000 people in it. HP & UP combined have only 32,000 people. Therefore the Park Cities only make up 23% of the district. So, you are correct in putting a question mark after “the Park Cities love Obama”, since you can’t tell from the data.

There’s only one sign on my street so I guess “the Park Cities love McCain?”
My sense, unscientific as it is, is that McCain will win the Park Cities, but not by as much as Republicans have in the past.
It is a secret ballot so that a person can vote without fear of intimidation or coercion.
Which of the following is a good reason to vote for a candidate?
1. I think he would do a good job in the office.
2. He is cute.
3. My friend thinks he is great.
4. He is a member of the “right” party.
I’ve got an Obama bumper sticker and have seen several others around the ‘hood…will wonders never cease, LOL! I have seen many more McCain stickers and yard signs, though. Funny story…I recently held an event for Obama at my house and 2 ladies drove all the way from Ft. Worth to attend. When I asked them why, they said, “We just had to see who on earth in the Park Cities zip code was voting for Obama!” I guess our reputation as being conservatives preceeds us.
I’m always a little right of center so I’m voting McCain but I do have one request for my fellow Republicans: Will those of you who still have a W 04 sticker on your car please remove it?
