When I visited Highland Park Village last week, I parked in the middle of the lot across the completely jacked up Mockingbird Lane. As I approached the nearest opening in the wall, I saw a sign that said “Pedestrians” and had an arrow pointing to the right. So I walked to the west end of the lot, where I found a sign that said “Pedestrians” and had an arrow pointing to the left. Huh?
The Highland Park volleyball team is five days away from a rematch with rival Richardson Pearce. First place will be on the line when the Lady Scots (27-7, 6-1) take on the Lady Mustangs (22-4, 7-0).
After sweeping Greenville, 25-9, 25-10, 25-15, the Lady Scots will play at Rockwall at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. HP will then travel to Richardson to face Pearce at 6:30 p.m. Friday. The Lady Mustangs beat the Lady Scots, 25-18, 25-22, 22-25, 25-16, on Sept. 16 at HP Fieldhouse.
HP is ranked No. 3 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s Class 4A state poll, while Pearce is ranked No. 6.
This Overheardian needs help finding doggy day care:
I have been readying the blog for a while now and I remember a past post about finding a vet in the park cities area. I am looking for a place to drop my dogs off for the day maybe once or twice a week. i was wondering if there were any “doggy day care” places that you or someone else could reccomend. I have small dogs (2 malteses) and would love to let them have a little socialization. Please let me know if you know anything!
Suggestions?
See, just when I try to stay out of trouble for a day I get all sorts of e-mail from people telling me I’ve lost my edge and I left out information because I’m scared of upsetting the Cattle Baron’s Ball committee. Well, that’s a double-dog dare. So here it goes.
There was some wild behavior at the end of the evening. I already introduced the two chicks on a bull but Overheardians are right, I did leave out the story about the ”lady” that rode the bull in a mini skirt. With. Out. Under. Wear.
I mean, can you see how many people are gathered around watching? It was truly shocking.
There you have it.
Frontburner has what one might call “facts” — let’s bring the anecdotal evidence to Overheard. Is University Park resident Dan Branch’s poll right? Could Obama pull an upset in District 108?
I know of at least one high-profile Highland Park homeowner who favors Obama. And I know we’ve had one canceled subscription as a direct result of our last editorial.
Count the yard signs on your street. What do they say?
Few of us are as privileged in life as to have earned the following labels for our efforts: “composer, record producer, artist, film producer, arranger, conductor, instrumentalist, TV producer, record company executive, magazine founder, multi-media entrepreneur and humanitarian.” But that’s how SMU is describing Quincy Jones before his lecture at 8 p.m. Tuesday at McFarlin Auditorium, as part of the Tate Lecture Series. Excuse me, make that the Omni Hotels Lecture of the Tate Lecture Series.
Maybe we should launch our own lecture series? Austin could discuss NASCAR, Dan can handle comic books (or should we call them graphic novels?), Chuck will tackle high school sports, Tierney has the social scene, Charles could discuss golfing on the finest courses in the world (after our title sponsor has arranged for him to play all of them, of course), and Merritt can find some way to cause trouble, I’m sure. The Overheard Lecture Series, anyone? Excuse me, make that the Wild About Harry’s Overheard Lecture Series…

The Snider Plaza fountain was bubbling too. Can’t they step it up a notch? Bubbles? Copy. Cat. Come on kids, is that all you have?
Wow, who would have thought of putting soap in a city water fountain? Here’s the Hitzelberger fountain this morning, just as it was last Monday morning.
