Bailout

Technically, the economic crisis may not be a local issue, but only if you also believe 9/11 wasn’t local.  Some issues transcend locality, and this is one of them.  As Congress today failed to pass a bailout bill, several questions come to my mind, and I’d like to hear what others are thinking.

For example,

Pete Sessions Rocks The Bailout Vote

While many Texas Republicans in the House of Representatives voted against the $700 billion plan to bail out an ailing economy (15 against, 4 in favor), Pete Sessions voted in favor of the plan. Even with Poker Pete’s help, the vote still failed 228 to 205, according to The New York Times.

The stock market seems to think the failed House vote is a bad thing.

What do you think?

Update: Any financial experts with a serious opinion on the matter can offer their interpretation of today’s events via e-mail. We’ll sift through ‘em and post as space allows.

Loss Drops Georgia in Polls

As expected, Georgia fell significantly in the polls following Saturday’s 41-30 loss to Alabama.

Matthew Stafford and Company are now ranked No. 11 in the Associated Press poll and No. 10 in the USA Today poll.

The Bulldogs (4-1, 1-1) will have a week off to prepare for their next game, which is an Oct. 11 home contest against Tennessee.

Against the Crimson Tide, which is now No. 2 in the AP poll, Stafford was 24-of-42 for 274 yards with two touchdowns and his first interception of the season.

Time to be a Part of the Stoneleigh’s History

The newly renovated Stoneleigh Hotel and Spa is reaching out to past guests and visitors for the hotel’s 85th birthday. Guests are asked to submit their favorite Stoneleigh moment for a chance to win a grand prize weekend package or one of five second-place prizes.

If it was the evening of your debutante ball, a wedding proposal, or just a plain wonderful weekend, write about it and send it to the judges. I’d send my memories, but they all include fraternity parties in the penthouse… Not exactly prize-winning material.

Henk Returns to Practice

Highland Park head football coach Randy Allen said inside linebacker Murphey Henk returned to practice on Monday after suffering an ankle injury in the Scots’ 52-14 drubbing of Carrollton Newman Smith last Thursday at Standridge Stadium.

Henk (6-0, 200, Sr.) should be good to go for Friday’s District 10-4A home game against Greenville at Highlander Stadium. The Scots are 4-0 overall, 1-0 in district.

Henk led the Scots in tackles against the Trojans with 14.

The People vs F-Bomb Teen

Following Merritt’s post, that included a back-handed apology from our lovable little F-Bomber, we’ve had a slight surge in voting. (more…)

HPHS English Class Needs Some Help

The jury is still out on whether or not the F-Bomber’s reply counts as a real apology.

However, it does provide a great segue into the world of grammar:

The F-Bomber may not be the finest example of a HPHS education, but in my humble opinion you are only as strong as your weakest link. It’s a great case study on today’s young, technologically savvy, and well -educated Parkie. Bad manners + technology = bad grammar.

Discuss, defend, debate, debunk…

The F-Bomber Responds

The response we’ve been waiting for is in. Technically this is an apology. Really it’s everything but.

I didn’t even write that email it was my friend on my iphone but since your going to threaten to “Tell my parents” ill waste 10 minutes of my day to respond to this stupid confrontation. Im 18 years of age, and if you think my parents will care if i told someone to f*** off then your really out of your mind. I find it flattering that you honestly went out of your way to write some blog on it, so thank you for that. i personally told my mom and she was laughing hysterically I guess im not as young as you thought I would be and my parents would ground me, again I apologize. I think I will be the bigger person here and tell you that I am sorry that we had this scuffle happen, it was unnessesary and immature on both of our parts I think you would agree. I am sorry I offended you but to write a blog and threaten is a little more extreme than a four letter word, but I sincerely am sorry for this it will not happen again

So you see, it’s my fault.

Monday Mid-Morning F-Bomb Vote Update

Friends of the F-Bomber need to start hitting the polls immediately. F0F-Bs should excuse themselves from class now and make a b-line to the computer lab or utilize their iPhones because 163 Overheardians believe Merritt should forward his e-mail to his parents. On the flip side 30 voters believe Merritt should forgive and forget. Decide amongst yaselves.
