If the cinematic version (with the same name) comes even close to the literary masterpiece that is Chuck Palahniuk’s Choke, then this movie is definitely worth watching. I haven’t gotten a chance to see it yet (read it years ago), but our fearless publisher Jason Heid did. Read his review here. Then watch the trailer below. If you like the movie, then do yourself one better and read the book. Why? Well, Palahniuk’s protagonists (Fight Club) are always great narrorators and that doesn’t always come through on the silver screen.
Ah, the first day of the Fair, when the grease is fresh and the new cars still smell like new cars. Here are a few photos to remind you of how good it is. Please notice that the turkey leg has stunned our model into submission and left mustard on his chin.
While Danny DeVito was spotted at the W, Joey Fatone of ’NSync and Dancing With Stars fame, was seen partying at The Joule. Last night was night one of two, yes two (2), over-the-top grand opening parties planned by Todd Fiscus and his Todd Events team. Overheardians snapped photos of the ‘NSync-er and were later overheard discussing Justin Timberlake’s possible attendance at tonight’s celebrity black tie soiree. Does anyone have a Joey story or photo from last night?
If you are one of the lucky hundred few attending tonight’s event, a section of Main Street is blocked off to manage the valet process. You must show your valet card to enter the police guarded entrance at Main and Akard. I give props to whomever orchestrated that part of the event, as it was the smoothest valet process and shortest line I’ve seen in years. More details on last night’s event to come…
The Highland Park football program doesn’t care much for losing.
With Thursday’s 52-14 victory over Carrollton Newman Smith to open District 10-4A play, the Scots kept some impressive winning streaks alive and kicking.
HP (4-0, 1-0) has now won 42 straight regular-season games and 40 consecutive district games. The last regular-season loss for the Scots was a 21-18 setback to Denton Ryan to open the 2004 season. HP’s last district loss was a 47-44 triple overtime loss to Pe
arce in 2001.
When Greenville comes calling next Friday at Highlander Stadium, the Scots will put those streaks on the line, along with their 50-game home winning streak. HP’s last home loss was a 24-22 setback against Denison in — are you ready for this? — 1998. The Scots have been perfect at home for nearly a decade. Wow.
Also, head coach Randy Allen is one win away from being 100 games over .500 at HP. With the Newman Smith win, he improved to 110-11. He has never lost a home game as head coach of the Scots. Wow again.

And no, it’s not Tony Romo, or Jessica Simpson, or the Jonas brothers.
I wanted to be sure to let you know that Danny DeVito was spotted lounging at W Dallas-Victory’s Living Room Bar last night. He was seen drinking Belvedere and snacking on a cheese assortment.
I wonder how if the Taxi star is really 5-feet tall? Anyone see him?
Samantha Brown, who spends her life on the road as the host of the Travel Channel’s Passport to Great Weekends, will be touching down in Dallas this weekend. She’ll be hanging in the shoe department of the NorthPark Dillard’s from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. tomorrow, offering tips on the best footwear for any excursion.
I worked my first shift in the supply room at the middle school today. I’m wondering about the background incident that led to this rule posted on the counter. And if the rubber cement requires a warning, why is this item available for general sale? I’m just sayin’. (more…)
Merritt’s got a poll of her very own to decide the fate of the F-Bomb dropping teen. She’s asking you to help her decide: Should she reveal his expletive e-mailing ways and forward his work to his parents? Or should she forgive this misguided Parkie teen? Click here to read her column and vote in the poll.
