Ballpark Drumroll

Ah, what a pleasure it is to attend the last Rangers home game of the season, on an afternoon with beautiful

weather.  And what a bonus to find you’re sitting behind the drum-beating Zonk as the Rangers score 9 runs in the sixth inning.  Zonk may have strained his arm.

Re: Alibaster Shows Merritt Some Love

So, the great Alibaster K. Abthernabther kindly replied to my earlier post on the job requirements of being his “beard,” a function he praised Merritt for in a mysterious e-card. AKA writes:

Being my beard entails a great many things; paramount among them: a steady hand and a strong stomach.

I’ve already said too much.  Merritt doesn’t like it when I get “icky.”

Curious…very curious.

The M.I.S. Track Keeps Comin’ Up In Conversation

Is it true that the MIS/HPMS track needs a bit more monitoring during school hours?

When it comes to middle school conversation, I have noticed that many stories from students and parents about smack talking and kids getting picked on and bullied all have the same setting, the track during P.E. It’s one of the only places that the different grade levels are exposed to each other and becasue it’s so large there is less opportunity for teachers to observe poor behavior.

Allen Receives Accolade

Highland Park head football coach Randy Allen was named the U.S. Army/Dallas Cowboys Coach of the Week following the Scots’ 57-41 victory over Coppell on Sept. 12.

The award comes with a $2,000 grant for the Scots football program from the Army and the Gene and  Jerry Jones Family Charities. Each week, the award is given to a Dallas/Fort Worth area head coach. Arlington’s Eddie Peach was the Week 1 winner. This is the 14th year the Cowboys have given a weekly award to a high school coach.

Congrats, coach Allen.

Alibaster Shows Merritt Some Love

I just received an e-mail from Merritt’s iPhone, she’s ecstatic (Merritt, not the iPhone) about receiving this e-card from Alibaster K. Abthernabther.

Just one question for AKA: (more…)

Re: Cindy Crawford, How About Some Kuby’s

In response to the e-mail I received yesterday from the PR chick setting up Cindy Crawford’s furniture interviews I replied cheerfully and under duress from a local PR pal who offered me $20 if I could get two more e-mails out of the scheduler.

Melissa, I’d love to interview Cindy but can we do it at Kuby’s? I’ll do a whole column about her. -Merritt

She responded with e-mail #1, only 1 more to go and I’m $20 richer.

Hi Merritt, Actually, Cindy has interview appointments scheduled at Rooms To Go all morning and then has other engagements in the afternoon. I would love to schedule you an interview at the Grapevine Rooms To Go location at 12:15. Does that work for you? Thanks! Melissa

To that I say, I don’t go to Grapevine all that much and:

I can’t do that but if she wants the weathiest audience in Texas and coffee with an elite and influential group of moms, I’ll set it up. 700 words in Park Cities People is far better than any other she’ll have that day. But that’s just me:)

Crickets. I lose my $20. And what could Cindy Crawford have planned that she wouldn’t drop for coffee with a group of hip moms? I say if Cindy knew she would pick Kuby’s but Melissa the PR pro isn’t passing along the message.

Mighty, Mighty Raiders

Last night was a great night for HPMS football teams. The 8th grade Gold team won a hard-fought 16-14 battle with McKinney Johnson.  The Red team was also a big winner with a 30-12 victory.  Anthony Vallera scored the first TD with a great catch and a big run all the way to the end zone.  The Red team seemed to stay on the ground last night and showed a nice running game.

The 7th grade Raiders had to swealter at McKinney North High School Stadium, the stands of which face due west (who is the genius behind that design?) to simultaneously blind and sunburn wilting spectators. The Red team blanked McKinney Johnson 15-0. Riggs Powell (a name which also has a nice pro football player ring to it - Hi Kass!) scored six with a phenomenal run,  Price Peters also played big with a kick return TD. The Gold team played hard but didn’t come home with a win last night.

As always, great job to the coaches, volunteers and those mighty, mighty Raiders!
