Don’t miss out on this review of Towelhead.
I’ve just been informed that tonight and tomorrow night, from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m., a crew of “about 50″ will be putting up the famed Christmas lights of Highland Park Village. This year the historic shopping center is using “LEDs.” I realize it’s only Sept. 18, but get excited people.
And to think I was just teasing one of the sales reps here in the office for already today sending out an office e-mail about plans for a potluck on Halloween, which is a scant month and a half away.

I took note of another rising star while sitting at a stop light earlier today. This total punk kid on the playground spit on another kid. Yep, rising star.
One of the many advantages to playing high school football in Texas is learning how to play in the heat. Heck, playing a Zero Week game often finds teams battling in 90-degree temperatures in late August.
That’s benefiting Georgia and former Highland Park quarterback Matthew Stafford, as this writer picked up on. After playing in extreme heat in last week’s 14-7 win over South Carolina, Stafford and his teammates will be playing in Tempe, Arizona, this Saturday against Arizona State, where it might just be a tad on the warm side.
Holland Roden, the former 21-year-old UP resident, continues to make her rounds in Hollywood as an aspiring actress. Her mother, Cheryl, brings delivers an update:
1) She is currently filming (in a co-lead part) in the 5th sequel “BRING IT ON” — the cheerleading movie — co-starring with Christina Milian and is working on location in LA. This will be a DVD release and a feature release in select theaters. Due date will be sometime in December 2008 or January 2009. Her first film work.
2) She just finished working on COLD CASE which will air on TV on OCTOBER 5, 2008. She has the lead part.
3) She finished LOST which she played Emily - John Locke’s teenage mother. Filmed on location in Hawaii. It aired this year on May 8th.
Hi. I’m the new managing editor of People Newspapers. It’s only my second day, so I just wanted to dip my toe into Overheard. FYI, my last job was here, where I also did this.
On Saturday from midnight to noon, all northbound lanes of the Dallas North Tollway will be closed from the I-35E entrance ramp to Mockingbird Lane.
On Sunday from midnight to noon, all southbound Tollway traffic will be required to exit at Northwest Highway, and the remaining southbound entrances from Forest Lane to I-35E will also be closed.
During the closure, crews will install permanent toll collecting devices, as well as foundations for roadway lighting, roadway camera structures and overhead sign structures.
Crews will also repair the pavement south of Oak Lawn Avenue from the Wycliff to Maple bridges, and to the Tollway bridge over Harry Hines Boulevard.
I was waiting for Chuck to break the news that the 8th grade football teams were both victorious last night over McKinney Cockrill but I’ll do it instead . . . The red team, led by QB Jet Tuma (a professional football player’s name if ever their was one, sorry Tam) beat the Cowboys 22-12. The gold team also won but I dunno who the QB was or what the score was. Is it obvious which team my son plays on? But the point is, they won.
The HPHS team gets lots of well-deserved media attention but the middle school coaching staff is super talented and very committed and deserves a shout out. Thanks coaches and parent volunteers.
Allow me to share a photographic tidbit from alert Overheardian Drew Ten Eyck. These pictures were taken at the impressive nut display in the Tom Thumb at Lovers and Greenville, in Old Town Shopping Center, more or less. The first photo is of the display, which contains all nuts. The second photo is of a sign among the display. ‘Nuff said.
