Chris Young and Clayton Kershaw, Highland Park’s alums pitching in the majors, will both be making a trip home next season with their respective teams.
The MLB announced its 2009 schedule today, and Kershaw and the Los Angeles Dodgers will be in Arlington for a three-game interleague series with the Rangers June 12-14. Young and the San Diego Padres will play a three-game series against the Rangers in Arlington June 26-28. Both are weekend series.
Hopefully, both Young and Kershaw will get to make a start during their trips home. Circle those dates on your calenders.
Math homework. Can. Not. Do It.
Each row, column and diagonal line must equal 20. Each time we have it, one freaking line doesn’t add up.
Update: It wasn’t 20, students were to pick an ODD number that they could make the problem work with.
This is shocking even for the Park Cities but I have a source who backs up the scandal.
My child attends [school name] and is in Kindergarten there. We found out that one of the other classes was requiring all parents to pitch in an additional $100 dollars per child for teacher gifts. There was one mother in that class who refused to pay the extra $100 and the other mothers (are you sitting) BOYCOTTED this mother’s child’s birthday party. We are talking about a 5 year old child who is wondering why no one came to his party…..isn’t that pathetic?????

Sometimes we reporters have to go to great lengths to get the news. Today was one of those days for me.
At the conclusion of the ribbon cutting ceremony for the renovations of the Cotton Bowl, members of the media and the assembled dignitaries got the chance to munch on Fletcher’s corny dogs and this year’s newest creation, chicken fried bacon.
Ok, so the photo isn’t great, but this is a snapshot of Yurman’s new couture line. The line moves away from the usual classic cable-style to bold, chunky pieces, and there are different stones involved (well, not in this photo, but you can see in the other).
It was fun looking at the jewelry, but (more…)
No plans? No worries. Let us help you with that.
I’m assuming that whatever these guys were doing was a major emergency. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have started blocking off this lane at the corner of Dickens and Lovers right at 3:00, just in time for carpool traffic. I’m just sayin’.
I’m pleased to announce today that Dan Koller has joined the staff of People Newspapers as our new managing editor.
We provided Dan a nice escape hatch from the Dallas Morning News, which just underwent its fourth workforce reduction in Dan’s eight years at the paper. (And they still have more layoffs coming in October, I believe.)
I’ll be setting Dan up to blog shortly. So look for him to become an Overheard contributor in the coming days and weeks. For those of you who read Quick regularly — and Belo apparently decided that was relatively few of you, what with it going weekly (and presumably trying to challenge the Observer) — Dan was also the comic book columnist. Here’s his final column.
Josh Howard’s spiral into stupidity continued this week when a YouTube video surfaced of the Mavericks forward disrespecting the “Star-Spangled Banner” at a charity flag football game in July.
This guy is unreal. Last season, he went on a local sports talk radio station to talk about how he liked to smoke marijuana during the offseason. He also felt the need to hand out fliers for his birthday party to teammates after a playoff loss to New Orleans that put the Mavs in a 3-1 series hole.
Earlier this year, Howard was arrested for drag racing in North Carolina. The Mavs had a chance to trade Howard for Ron Artest a couple of months ago and turned it down. I think Dallas will regret that decision, unless Howard can get his life under control.
Tonight is the grand opening of The Fairmont Hotel’s Pyramid Restaurant & Bar, complete with a sleek modern look and new menu. From what I’ve heard, chef JW Foster focuses on market fresh dishes, even implementing a 2,000 square foot herb and vegetable garden on the hotel’s Terrace level.
But tonight isn’t just about the grand opening, the evening is also celebrating the Dallas Children’s Theater’s 25th anniversary and will be hosted by Gina Betts, Yvonne Crum, and Eva and Rob Aikey.
Photos of the Pyramid after the jump.
Want to meet the designer? Head to Neiman Marcus in NorthPark Center. He will be there from noon to 4 p.m. introducing his new perfume and high-end jewelry line.
If your morning activities take you near westbound North Fitzhugh Avenue and Cole Avenue, then beware of two motorcycle cops who are tag-teaming motorists near a school zone. As I passed the intersection this morning they were waving cars over in pairs. I assume they are writing tickets, but I didn’t hang around long enough to find out. So now you know…and knowing is half the battle .
