An Overheardian sent me scoop that N9NE Group’s Nove Italiano restaurant at Victory Park is closed “indefinitely”. I called the main line several times, but no one answered. I guess their biggest fan celebrity spokesperson, #9 Mike Modano, could not change their fate. It is a shame, because that location is perfect for pre-game or post-game nosh since it is steps from the AAC.
Did anyone partake in one of Nove’s ”last meals” on Saturday? What did the staff say? Methinks this is not the last change or closing of a N9NE Group establishment.
that location might be nice for a meal before or after an AAC event, but it’s dead all other times. i was out at victory 2 saturday’s ago for the UT/UTEP game-watching. for a saturday night, all of the restaurants were dead. it’s a shame b/c they are really nice, but the parking just kills their business.
I heard N9NE group was opening a less expensive option in its place…
The staff had no idea that the restaurant was closing, I can say that for a fact bc I worked there, until Saturday that is. They found out after their shift. Nove was busy on saturday night, because of the Eagles concert at the AAC. As far as parking goes, it was only $8 to valet if you validated at one of the restaurants and there were plenty of parking lots that are free for the first FOUR hours and only $5 if you stay longer than that. I worked there and everyone who worked anywhere in VP was not excluded in having to pay to park, and with everyone that I know that works in VP, I NEVER heard ANYONE ***** about how much parking costs. If you can’t “afford” the parking prices, then you clearly don’t belong ANYWHERE near VP.
answers to your blog-
question # 1 Yes, I ate there on the closing night. It was both a beautiful dinner and a heartbreaking few hours at Nove. This was due to the fact that the collective at my table had spent years pouring our hearts and souls into a unique dining experience that had been plagued by the often tough and territorial local media.
question #2 The staff was crushed. As they should be. Nothing like knowing that you have it all in the realm of world-class restaurants…great food, mind-boggling design, incredible service, celebrity clientele in a great city, and yet somehow… it wasn’t working. This was certainly not the fault of our loyal staff. And I’m not sure they would blame those of us making the big decisions either, as they know well how hard we all tried. So, as disappointing as last Saturday was for the staff, they’ll always be able to hold their chin high and know that we all gave it our best shot.
And I love them for that.
Please also remember that the National media had no problem celebrating the magic of Nove, including the well-respected Conde Nast Traveler which proudly termed it…
“one of the newest, cutting edge and most irresistible restaurants in the world.”
Enough said.
On that note, I would like to challenge our local media to not take the easy route next time a great concept comes to town. Maybe give new ideas a fair shake and see if it’s just as easy become part of the long-term health of our Dallas restaurant scene instead of a contributing factor to it’s recent decline.
Lastly, me thinks that everyone should do their homework a little better before continuing any speculation of supposed closings of our other Dallas properties. ghostbar is still the top earning, true nightclub in the most recent TABC monthly liquor report. We’re sitting in the Top 10, right behind the those tiny little holes-in-the-wall known as Gaylord Convention Center, Lone Star Race Track, House of Blues, etc.
No easy feat for any Dallas venue in a bad economy, I can assure you.
Sincerely,
Wade Randolph Hampton

I enjoy Victory Park and all it has to offer so I’m doing my best to get my friends and family to support its tenants. I tried to make a positive impact with Victory Park by mailing or personally dropping off packets for restaurants and retailers to participate in the 2008 Partners Card. 8 new locations were added to the late October shopping event, including new-to-the-scene The Boardroom.
Hopefully Partners Card will bring some new folks to the Victory Park as it truly is a great place for shopping, dining, cocktails and conversation. I look forward to the Nove replacement as I already miss the patio.
