SMU Launching “Second Century Campaign”

Tomorrow at 11:45 a.m., SMU President R. Gerald Turner will announce the university is launching a “Second Century Campaign.” If you can’t make it to the Moody Coliseum Plaza, you can watch a live webcast of the announcement.

DMN is Only 7 Months Behind Us

It’s not Zac Crain’s fault that he thinks he’s reporting news about University Park alley rules today over on Frontburner.

It’s just that Dallas Morning News staff writer Ian McCann has finally caught up to a story we told our readers last February.

Stafford, Bulldogs Open SEC Play Saturday

After two convincing wins over inferior opponents Georgia Southern and Central Michigan, the No. 2 Georgia Bulldogs will open Southeastern Conference play at 2:30 p.m. Saturday at South Carolina.

Under starting quarterback and former Scott Matthew Stafford, Georgia is averaging 50.5 points per game. Stafford is 31-of-49 for 488 yards with four touchdowns and no interceptions.

The Gamecocks come into the game with a 1-1 record. South Carolina beat North Carolina State, 34-0, and then lost its conference opener to Vanderbilt, 24-17.

Football at Ford Stadium Saturday

The SMU Mustangs will not be at home Saturday. Instead, they will be trying to contain one of the most explosive offenses in the country when they play Texas Tech in Lubbock.

But that doesn’t mean there won’t be college football at Ford Stadium.

Because of Hurricane Ike threatening to hit Texas Saturday morning, the Houston Cougars have moved their game against Air Force to Ford Stadium. Kickoff is at 2:30 p.m.

TCU also moved its home game against Stanford up to noon.

HP Football Auction Set for Oct. 3

The annual Highland Park High School football auction will be held Friday, Oct. 3, at the game between the Scots and Greenville. Bidding will begin at 6:45 p.m. and will continue until 9:30.

Items in the auction include: four tickets and a parking pass for a Cowboys game, a stay at Fredericksburg Inn and Suites, two nights in Las Vegas in an MGM Grand condo, a weekend at a Cypress Springs lake house and autographed memorabilia from pro athletes and former Scot quarterback Matthew Stafford. There will also be a hand made nativity scene and a T-shirt quilt made from the winning bidder’s own T-shirts.

Tom Harrison was the top bidder on a package that included a front row parking pass for all the 2008 home football games. His son, Matt Harrison, is an offensive lineman on the Scots varsity.

I See a Future Trend

I believe this is the future in the Park Cities. McMansions shall be banished and tiny homes will be in their place. Apparently, to reduce your carbon footprint and just make life easier in general, you should live in a home that has less than 100 sq. feet.

I’m not saying it’s a bad idea. I’m just saying sometimes, I like my space.

A Jewel of a Place to Stay

I wonder in which penthouse designer Oscar de la Renta is staying while in town for The Crystal Charity Ball’s Ten Best Dressed luncheon today…
