Although parents are probably not supposed to know, it seems that there may be a change occurring in the highly-
regimented clothing style of our school-age boys. Just last year, and for several years previously, the outfit de rigueur was baggy, slick nylon running shorts (or what were once called “gym shorts”) a loose tee shirt, and Crocs. Suddenly, our boys have gone preppy, with khaki shorts (preferably shorts with big , low-hanging pockets) neat, collared polo shirts, and tennis shoes.
Who called this meeting? When was this decided, and how was the word spread? Meanwhile, as we continue to move forward into the past, I expect the girls to begin wearing bows in their hair again at any time.
Charles, dude, have you been to HPMS lately? Those guys are all about (and have been) long plaid shorts. I assume it’s about the same for the high school.
Let’s not ruin it and tell them that is what we wore back in the day.
But Kersten, have you seen any “bowheads” recently?
HPMS does not allow sports shorts except for PE/Athletics. Thus khaki, cargo, and plaid shorts. More variety at HPHS. Sports shorts are allowed. Jeans are also common.
With our majority Republican base, expect girls to wear Sarah Palin eyeglasses and hair styles with big humps.
No but I am ALL FOR bringing back the bowhead. These cute HP girls all have the same hairdo and I think they should shake it up a little with bows.
anon.
Let me just add to your comment by saying that I’ve noticed the preppy look not just among middle schoolers but also at the elementary school. I’m not saying this is a bad thing, mind you, it’s just funny how fashion changes sweep through so thoroughly and quickly, like a school of fish all changing direction at once.
girls are wearing white t-shirts and those Nike running shorts from Tylers in high school
No one at the high school wears glasses if they can help it. It’s all about contacts. And most of the girls wear Nike shorts or jeans everyday. In middle school the guys had to wear those khaki shorts because of the dress code, though a lot of them wore just normal t-shirts. Now in the high school some of the boys wear the khaki shorts, but a lot of them wear basketball shorts.
Also, Crocs were never in. I believe they have one purpose, and that is wearing them at camp
Oh, I beg to differ, E. Crocs were definitely a hot item for awhile. But the dress code at the middle school would explain what’s going on there. It doesn’t explain the turnover at the elementary, though.
You have to love that the 8th grade girl’s uniform at HP middle school is a man’s white t-shirt (from target, etc) with nike shorts. A whole lot cheaper than tory burch!
Maybe the elementary school boys imitate their older brothers and neighbors. But I bet many just wear what their moms (or dads) buy for them. The adults are the ones who conspired to change the pre-MIS uniform.
Hello… topsiders are back in again.
I wore them when I was in high school
many many years ago
Thank goodness for the white Hanes v-neck undershirt craze. It offset the expense of the “must-have” designer jeans and monogrammed Jon Hart backpack.
It is funny that the Topsiders have come around again. They were “must-have” footwear when I was in high school on the East Coast in 1975. Back home in Texas, though, Candie’s wooden heels and criss-cross strap leather platforms ruled. I feel a disco ball moment comin’ on.
