The parking police were out in force today on the first day of school at Hyer. There was a uniformed officer on the South side and a plainclothed officer on the North side writing tickets, and Lord help anyone spotted on a cell phone in his or her car. Clearly, the UPPD means business this year.
While cell phones are an issue….let’s not forget the safety of our children, which is our major concern and primary reason for being in the school zones this week and in weeks to come. I would think all area police departments have increased their presence in school zones during the first week of two of school to control the mass confusion. I speak from experience, as I take my kindergardener to Bradfield. Saw one car door badly damaged this morrning when two cars didn’t safely get around each other.
As for the plainsclothed officer, sent to enforce any Handicapped Parking violations! But, if a person is on a cell phone then that is a violation too.
“Let’s be safe out there!”

University Park Police Department
Thanks, Chief. I’m not complaining.
Thank you Charles. I didn’t think so. I just saw this as an avenue to get the messae out on safety!
