Wow, it was a hectic scene tonight at Hyer for “Meet the Teacher Night.” So many cuties saying hello, comparing their new clothes, squealing at each other in delight and discussing their summer vacations. They were precious.
And that was just the moms. The kids seemed pretty excited, too.
Frontburner brings us news that Macie Jepson is among those let go during layoffs at WFAA. Why is this Parkie related? Because she was once a top keyword search on Overheard.
This just in from the UPPD.
Officer A.J. Sherrill, a member of the United States Army Reserves has been activated for a tour of duty in Afghanistan. A six-year veteran of the University Park Police Department, in 2007, Officer Sherrill was assigned full-time to Highland Park High School as School Resource Officer. Merritt first brought you the news of this powder puff football game. Then Tierney did a great piece about it in the paper. Now, organizer Erin Finegold brings us the results of the first ever Dallas BVB game and this bit of news.
So…Not only did we have about 400 people in attendance (they were expecting 250), the most perfect August weather, and the closest game in powder-puff history, but we raised over $62,000 for the Alzheimer’s Association!!! (remember our goal was $20k).
Check the jump to see who won.
Our kind and talented society editor, Tierney Kaufman, just informed me she has to trek to the municipal court of HP at 1:30 p.m. today just because she wants to take defensive driving for a ticket she got going down Armstrong Avenue a few weeks ago.
Is that right? You can only ask HP to let you take defensive driving at an appointed time? You can’t just drop by the old town hall any old time to get permission?
The Highland Park volleyball team has arguably played one of the toughest schedules in the state so far in the young volleyball season. And the Lady Scots certainly won’t get a break this weekend.
In its first six matches of the season, HP (3-4) has taken on four state-ranked teams, including two that were in last year’s Class 5A state tournament. Although they played all of the ranked teams close, the Lady Scots lost to Lake Highlands (No. 1 in 5A), Austin Westlake (No. 3 in 5A), Plano West (No. 8 in 5A) and Red Oak (No. 4 in 4A).
HP, which is ranked No. 6 in the Texas Girls Coaches Association’s state 4A poll, will face at least one more ranked team in the Justin Northwest Tournament today and Saturday. The Lady Scots play Hereford (No. 3 in 4A) in pool play at 3:15 p.m. Canyon Randall, the state’s top-ranked 4A team, is also in the tourney.
The Highland Park football team will be doing what it has done nearly every single August for the last decade on Friday night — scrimmage Plano West.
The Scots and Wolves will square off at Clark Stadium. The junior varsity will go at 6 p.m., followed by the varsity at 7:30. The scrimmage is the only one for both teams, which will open the season in the Tom Landry Classic one week from Saturday.
Plano West will take on perennial powerhouse Southlake Carroll at 4:30 p.m. HP will then tangle with Red Oak.
