An Overheardain wants to know:
How does a private entity like the Highland Park Village get detour signs permanently mounted in the public right-of-way? I’m referring to the professionally-made signs at the intersections of the Tollway and Mockingbird/Beverly. It’s a good idea, but I bet Highland Park is VERY particular about things like this which makes me curious: did the Town pass some special legislation for the duration of the construction?
I saw some of the signs today and can’t help but wonder…are there really that many people from outside the bubble who bypass Stonebriar, Willow Bend, Galleria and NorthPark to shop at HPV? And are all of those lost folks from N. Dallas, Plano, Frisco and Oklahoma really the cause of the loss of revenue at HPV, or could it be the economy? Maybe some of them don’t want to buy the gas to get to HPV. However, it was very nice of the city to agree to the signage.
There’s really not a lot to purchase in the HPV in the economy. I must say back in the day that there was a bakery, a decent grocery store (not glorified 7-11), a real drug store, a place that would fix any electrical gadget, a tennis shop, a couple of reasonable anchor stores. Deno was there and still there. Believe me, it’s not the street construction, it’s the tenants and the management. Too much sugar for a dime!! If they would just fix the sewage so the water in Mico’s didn’t taste like a potty and the outside all over didn’t smell like an outhouse. Coulda done it while the streets were being jacked with!!!
