Where Should Charles Work? I Mean, Besides the Golf Course.

I was visiting with Charles and we’re thinking of blogging from behind the scenes at favorite local establishments. Do you think Bubba’s would let us run the drive thru for a couple of hours? Oooo, what about being the cashier at Kuby’s? I bet Chief Adams would say no to us answering 911.  

Charles, I think you should work at Kid Biz and help rich tots pick out back to school clothes.

Goodbye to Glenn

In a little while the People Newspapers/D Magazine family will gather to say goodbye to senior editor Glenn Arbery, who has so ably handled our Weekend section since its inception five years ago. For those who haven’t heard, Glenn is returning to academia, taking a two-year appointment to a chair at a college up in Massachusetts.

All of us who have had the privilege of working with Glenn will miss him, and the Dallas arts scene will have one less champion for its cause. Everyone who has had dealings with Glenn comes away impressed by his intelligence, but also his kindness and humility. Here’s a little taste of what I’m talking about.

Talk to Me About Middle School Clothes

Last year, to enter 4th grade, my daughter was focused on clothes but in a reasonable way. By that I mean $40 jeans and cute t-shirts.

This year, totally different story. I need to know if this is normal. She wants a Juicy short sleeved hoodie, a Juicy t-shirt, Juicy headband and Ed Hardy sneakers.  This does not include clothing for the lower half of her body, she’s still deciding about that.

TDMN Tabs Scots No. 1 in 4A

The Dallas Morning News released its preseason Class 4A area poll in today’s edition with Highland Park ranked No. 1.

Although the Scots return only three starters, HP went 15-1 last season and nearly won the program’s fourth state title and second in three years. Four teams on HP’s schedule this season are also ranked — No. 4 Rockwall, No. 8 Rockwall-Heath, No. 12 Red Oak and No. 18 Royse City.

The rest of the top 20 is: 2. Everman, 3. Carter, 5. Mansfield Timberview, 6. Denton Ryan, 7. South Oak Cliff,  9. Lincoln, 10. West Mesquite, 11. Fort Worth Southwest, 13. McKinney, 14. Lancaster, 15. Ennis, 16. Waxahachie, 17. Kimball, 19. Frisco, 20. Lake Dallas.
