Mourning the Loss of Balls Hamburgers

Some people can’t believe the news:

Did Balls really close? If so I’m in mourning from New York.  I can’t tell you how many team
dinners we had there after under the lights games growing up.  In my
house we got Jack’s to go but my parents would take us to Balls so
they could get a salad (only later in life did I realize that “salad”
could also mean beer).  In summers my friends and I would hit Snider
Plaza and Balls after days at the pool so we could play video games
and drink all the coke refills we could ever want.  People who rip on
Balls for the food or say it isn’t the best burger are missing the
point.  For twenty years it was a gathering point for U.P. kids and
their families and Dunkin Donuts will never offer anything close to
that.

Agreed.

Did you ever have your coffee-klatchy at Kuby’s with one of this stores owners/franchisees? Did he have hooves and ground down nubs on his head? I’m so bummed…I grew up eating there, and my youngsters now always request it because of the games and perfectly good grub. Odd in some respects that S.P. has been one of the last bastions of local fauna, but things change…and in the end…well to quote John Maynard Keynes: In the long run, we’re all dead.

We have a pretty interesting footnote to the Snider Plaza Balls closing - at Campesino - apparently there wasn’t much of a choice for the owners.

We may finally be on the same page, Camoesino please share. Do we have to kick someone’s ass? Wachovia has taken all the filling stations and now they are in the dumpster, no more gas in the Bubble and no more corner lots. I love Balls, we spent every award banquet at the one on Northwest Highway. The Village (HP) has gone to hell in a handbasket, now SP???? Really???

GMOM - just click on the link in our name - it will take you to the site and the story on the SP Balls. Thanks!

    bummer…

As a poor law student at SMU in the late 1980’s (yes, a few SMU students actually work their way through school) I could always count on Mustang Donuts and/or Balls to keep me going for just a few dollars.

My family I will continue to patronize Mustang Donuts, long may they wave!

Does anyone else suspect that the greedy landlord will be getting a percentage of gross sales at the new DunkinDoughNuts? Good luck to these new owners with few automobile parking spots available.

Balls Burgers is still open at Northwest Hightway and Midway.
