Just got this note from an Overheardian. We’re looking into it:
I have been out of town for a few days and returned last night to see the Shell station at Lomo Alto & Lovers Lane boarded up and taped off with yellow official looking “crime scene” tape. I almost wrecked my car in disbelief! PLEASE tell me we are not getting another bank? We really need that gas station in the PC vicinity. The 7-11 on Lovers by the TOT is a scary plan B for those of us who have used this location for 20+ years! And with gas at $4 a gallon they certainly can’t be hurting for the funds to operate.
Developing.
What “the TOT?”
The Time Out Tavern. Great, total dive bar.
This is soooo insane! I hope the Shell station in Snider Plaza is still open. If that one closes, Meredith will be in big trouble driving to the burbs looking for gas with her empty light on.
I think that Shell stations in DFW that are owned by Motiva Enterprises, LLC — and there are a lot of them — are either closing or being transitioned to Quik-Way or 7-Eleven gas stations. A bunch of stations in and around the Park Cities are affected. Off the top of my head, I can think of the ones at Preston and Royal, Greenville and University, and now on Lomo Alto.
There is a Texaco on Lovers Lane by the High School and that’s it!!! Across from Stephanie Anne,etc..
CN. I live right around the corner from Stephanie Anne’s. About 3 years ago, that Texaco station became a Shell. And that is the station that closed. So I’m kind of confused about what you are talking about. The only gas station near or on the Miracle Mile is the one across from Nicholson Hardie and near the Time Out Tavern. AND there is the Shell in Snider Plaza close to the intersection of Lovers and Hillcrest. That Shell is not owned by Motiva and should be safe to stay open. I hope.
I noticed this yesterday and it totally sucks, especially since the Shell in Snider Plaza is VERY expensive (usually 25-40 cents more PER GALLON!!) than anywhere else nearby. The only close alternatives I could think of are Tom Thumb (which is problematic due to heavy traffic and wait times) or the multi-pump 7-11s at Hillcrest and Northwest Highway or Southwestern and Abrams (by Target). UP needs another gas station and NOT another bank.
There’s the Chevron at the SE corner of Preston and NW Highway. Convenient if you’re a Baptist.
Folks, wherever you are driving you can find a gas station. Are you ONLY staying in the Park Cities and not crossing the boundaries? It isn’t like we are living in west Texas and have to drive 100 miles before you hit the next gas station.
For those in HP, it’s not like there’s nothing available on Lemmon. They are everywhere there.
“And with gas at $4 a gallon they certainly can’t be hurting for the funds to operate.” Actually, the opposite is true. After the credit card fees, gas margins are razor thin.
I’m almost afraid to say this because the wait for a pump was crazy long as it was, but the other day I got gas for about 10 cents cheaper than the Chevron (I think it’s the Chevron) on Preston and Northwest Highway just by driving a few blocks down to Midway and Northwest Highway.
A neighbor of mine just got her window shattered at the gas station on Lovers near the TOT! Her children were in the car when the “lady” threw the bottle at her side window and broke the glass. Fortunately, none of them were hurt but the car was damaged and the mom felt lucky nothing happened to her kids other than being tramautized thinking they had been shot at. She was waiting in line to get gas and when a pump opened that was on the opposite side of her gas tank she turned around and that is when the person starting screaming at her that she had cut in line and threw the bottle while yelling some not very nice things despite the fact that my friend had explained to her she had been in line waiting and was just turning her car around to line up with the pump.
Say it isn’t so! We are on the verge of our move to the bubble, and that was going to be “my” station. I loved their car vacuum (I refuse to be a statistic in a minivan with goldfish cracker crumbs embedded in the rear of my Citizens). Sigh-NOW what I am supposed to do. Great.
The Shell at Southwestern and 75 has always been reasonable with prices. Easy access.
Unstable. That one is also owned by Motiva. Expect that one to close very soon, if it hasn’t already.
I can tell all of you with 100% positivity that the Shell at Lovers and Lomo Alto is not going away. They are temporarily remodeling the station because Shell Motiva (the corporate owner) sold to a jobber (i.e. an operator or franchisee) who is jazzing the place up a little. So don’t freak out too bad….the closure is just temporary!
JJW is correct. There is a sign on the store that confirms as much.
@Bluebird — What’s the TOT?
Whew. You just made my day. I love that vacuum. Yes-I am on odd one.
The TOT is Time Out Tavern. Enter at your own risk
