Park Cities is Out of Gas?

Just got this note from an Overheardian. We’re looking into it:

I have been out of town for a few days and returned last night to see the Shell station at Lomo Alto & Lovers Lane boarded up and taped off with yellow official looking “crime scene” tape. I almost wrecked my car in disbelief! PLEASE tell me we are not getting another bank? We really need that gas station in the PC vicinity. The 7-11 on Lovers by the TOT is a scary plan B for those of us who have used this location for 20+ years! And with gas at $4 a gallon they certainly can’t be hurting for the funds to operate.

Developing.

Re: Officer Elwonger Story Cuts Her Some Inaccurate Slack?

Merritt’s write right. Here’s our correction:

The July 25 article “Officer’s Website Violates UP Policy” on Page 1A misstated the content of www.cuff-em.com. Officer Suzette Elwonger and the University Park Police Department were named on the Website.

The sentence now reads

Both Elwonger and the UP Police Department were named on the site, and photos of Elwonger in her uniform were prominently featured.

Not to Brag or Anything BUT…

That girl on the front row, far right (well all of them actually)…looks like a Camp Longhorn Fiesta Swim first place ribbon. I’m just sayin’.

Young Returns to Mound Tonight

Ex-Scot Chris Young will make his first start for the San Diego Padres since May 21 tonight against the Arizona Diamondbacks.

First pitch is set for 9:05 p.m. at Petco Park.

Young suffered a broken nose when he took a line drive off the bat of Albert Pujols more than two months ago.

Gardner in All-Star Game Tonight

Former Highland Park wide receiver Seth Gardner will be playing for the North team in tonight’s Texas High School Coaches Association’s all-star football game at San Antonio’s Alamodome.

Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m. The game will be televised on Fox Sports Southwest.

Gardner, who caught 73 passes for 1,491 yards and 21 touchdowns for the 15-1 Scots last season, will wear No. 86. Gardner is headed to the University of Arkansas to play baseball.

There  are also four SMU signees playing in the game: Rockwall QB Braden Smith, Prosper TE Taylor Thompson, Plano OL Blake McJunkin for the North and Cuero RB/CB Quincey Whittington for the South.

Scrabulous, Facebook Get Quicky Divorce

According to Slashdot, “News for nerds. Stuff that matters.” Scrabulous has been removed from Facebook per request by Hasbro and their lawyers. For those online scrabble junkies out there (Merritt) you can still get your word fix on at www.scrabulous.com.

Officer Elwonger Story Cuts Her Some Inaccurate Slack?

I have received a number of e-mails, a couple of phone calls and few stops during my daily routine from people wanting to discuss the Park Cities People July 25 article about UPPD Officer Suzette Elwonger. People, I didn’t write it. But the issue seems to be this one little sentence in the story:

Neither Elwonger nor the UP Police Department were named on the site, but photos of Elwonger in her uniform were prominently featured.

I consulted my copy of the site content and readers are right, one page alone mentions her name 6 times. The first sentence reads:

In our pilot episode, meet, Officer Suzette Elwonger, a 12-year police veteran with the University Park Police Department.

Btw, I didn’t make up the use of bold print, it’s an exact quote.

Hark! Is That a School Bell?

Can you feel it? Even as those of us who aren’t “summering” elsewhere lay torpid in the late July heat, there is a tension sensed among our children as summer draws to a close. The kids know that school-time is drawing near. And not a minute too soon.
