Rasansky: Strippers Need Criminal Background Checks

I just got back from an afternoon chat with District 13 Councilman Mitchell Rasansky. The topic of discussion was his long awaited budget amendment proposal. He’s well known for his penny-pinching budget suggestions.

Among the various proposals is one that would require dancers, and all other employees of sexually oriented businesses, to pay a $100 annual fee for a permit and go through an outstanding warrant search and health check for sexually transmitted diseases.

Rasansky said even if it doesn’t raise the $200,000 he projects it will, it should still be on the books. Jump for the money quote.

“If you are going to come to Dallas and you are going to dance, we are going to check your criminal record,” Rasansky said. “Maybe that will send the message to the kind of people that work in these establishments that you are not wanted in Dallas if you have any outstanding warrants…I don’t care if it costs us some money. We don’t want those kind of people in Dallas.”

This should make for an interesting debate if it ever reaches the horseshoe.

If passed, would there be enough “eligible” dancers available?

And is part of it really necessary?

He did defend the latter portion of his proposal by implying there was a connection between dancers and ladies of the night.
