I’m a HUGE bag snob and I’ve passed the love of fine accessories on to my oldest daughter. The back to school backpack/tote shopping trip is a multi-generational annual event. So when I found out that Vera Bradley is the must have bag for all incoming MIS students, I wanted to vomit.
I sent photos of the various Vera Bradleys to my daughter at camp along with pictures of the bags we had already discussed (the ones I like better). I told her to be thinking about it and we’d decide when she got home. I’m hoping that some of the Houston girls in her cabin that haven’t fallen victim to the local trend will tell her they’re ugly. Otherwise, I’ll be buying a Vera Bradley.
Three words - Preston Road Pharmacy
I don’t really like bags you can buy at the pharmacy.
5 words for you…A PEEK IN THE ATTIC!
In my somewhat recent days at Kinkaid in Houston, Vera Bradley was definitely for the B list.
Vera Bradley-ugh! What are they wearing? Laura Ashley dresses? Freakin’ A. Get that girl something else.
Merritt, can I introduce her to Kate Spade?

It was Dooney Burke when we (my daughter) was there. MIS is just a holding tank for insecure, pubesent (sp?, hormonal, pimple faced, testing the world kids. Follow or get out of the way. If you are in, you are a clone, out= freak street jr!! Just the way it is. That purse looks like Pierre Deux, cute!!

Just add some double C’s to it or some burberry and you’ll feel better. Hey, maybe you can get Burberry to make it for you and then give it a Vera Bradley sounding name like Plaid Plaid. Just a thought.
I was getting the gram vibe when I first saw it now it has grown on me. I even carry a Raspberry Fizz cosmetic bag (birthday present) and it is roomy and durable and quite cute.
The problem with Vera Bradley is you have to buy all the bags you want before they discontinue your style. My sister has everything matching and I’m a bit jealous. I started 3 different styles before I eventually grew bored of Vera Bradley and have moved on. Not only do my college friends has Vera but so do 8 year olds. I guess there isn’t a “grown-up” only rule when it comes to bags these days. What’s wrong with a backpack??
Get ahead of the trends, fashion girls. Hello Kitty will soon be all the rage for those in the know. VB is soo faux Pierre Deux.
P.S. I guess my vintage Lilly P purse is worth something now. Maybe I should take it to Peek in the Attic in Snider — you can get old Vera there too.
On second thought, the Hello Kitty craze might give our local chief of police some ideas and put us all in jeopardy. http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Thai_police_to_wear_‘Hello_Kitty’_armbands_as_punishment
PS to GMOM, I pray to God nightly and mightily, for my young son’s sake, that the girls at MIS are wholesome and prepubescent . . . but we do tend to hold ‘em back around here, so I’m not holding my breath.

“Thai police to wear ‘Hello Kitty’ armbands as punishment. Monday, August 6, 2007
Thai police officers are being punished by being forced to wear large, bright pink Hello Kitty armbands.
The armband, which features Hello Kitty sitting on top of two hearts, will be worn by police officers who commit minor offences. These include littering, lateness and parking in a prohibited area. The officers will also be forced to stay with the deputy chief all day in division office and will be forbidden to disclose their offences. However, police officers caught breaking the law will still be subject to the same penalties and fines as ordinary members of the public.
Police Colonel Pongpat Chayapan said, “Simple warnings no longer work. This new twist is expected to make them feel guilt and shame and prevent them from repeating the offense, no matter how minor. (Hello) Kitty is a cute icon for young girls. It’s not something macho police officers want covering their biceps. This is to help build discipline. We should not let small offences go unnoticed.”
Hello Kitty was created by the Japanese Sanrio Company in 1974. The character has been admired by both children and adults. It features on stationery, T-shirts, lunch boxes, Fender guitars and jewelry. Famous people known to have been spotted with Hello Kitty products include Britney Spears, Paris Hilton and Mariah Carey.”
I’ve seen several LeSportSac backpacks at the middle school as well. I have no idea where to purchase them as my daughter likes the Vera Bradley …

Get the bag. And go ahead and make appointments for teeth bleaching, breast augmentation, and. botox. Oh yeah, almost forgot, make appointments for counseling too, on why their lives are so shallow and meaningless.
