Hold The Guac…

guacamoleAnd the Jalapenos and serrano peppers; at least if they are from Grande Produce, a Hidalgo-based produce company that issued a voluntary recall of those three veggies today, according to the U.S. Food & Drug Administration.

A strain of salmonella, different from the one found in tomatoes (St. Paul), was found on their avocados, Jalapenos, and serrano peppers. No illnesses have been reported yet.

No need to panic. I’ve been calling local Park Cities Tex-Mexeries to find out if they carry food from Grande Produce. Here is your list.

Chuy’s on McKinney Ave: Don’t serve Grande Produce

Mi Cocina in Highland Park Village: Also Grande free

On The Border at Knox: Grande not on the menu, “Wouldn’t be prudent,” a former president with his fair share of food fiascos quipped fictionally  in the background.

El-Fenix on NW Highway: No Grande here

Mattito’s on Routh: Still waiting to hear from them on their Grande situation

UPDATE: The produce people at Tom Thumb in Snider Plaza told me they’ve never seen the Grande Produce label and no product recalls have been issued at their store.

Straight from the source: I called Grande Produce to obtain a client list, but VP Raul Cano said they were still waiting for tests to come back before they released that information.

“We don’t know what’s on those peppers,” Cano said.

That seems contrary to what the FDA is reporting on their Web site

If you’d like me to check out another restaurant, drop the name and location in the comments section or shoot me an e-mail.
