Officer Elwonger Speaks About Cush Cops

I just got off the phone with Suzette Elwonger, the University Park police officer who was featured in our blog post about a reality TV show pitch yesterday. She asked me to set the record straight on a few matters:

She says the reality TV show was an idea that she and a business partner had decided to pitch a few years ago. The website that we linked to was meant to be the first part of a presentation to prospective producers. They were also working on a treatment, but decided to abandon the plan, she says, because she had too much else going on in her life at the time, including her duties as DARE officer at Highland Park Middle School. She says she would have gotten permission from the UP police chief before formally pitching the program. She doesn’t know why the website is still up and running.

Police Chief Gary Adams was, apparently, not aware of the website until Merritt pointed it out yesterday. Elwonger told me that her job has been placed in jeopardy by this incident, and that she’s been called in to speak with the chief and her police captain. “It was just a crazy dream idea that we were going to try,” she said.

Stay tuned.

Her job is in jeopardy because she has a hot body?

I would certainly hope her job is not really in jeopardy over this. It’s nothing. I’m much more concerned about the closing of certain Starbucks locations.

  • Merritt Patterson

She could kick a** on any criminal, did you see her muscles? Somehow I don’t think she’ll be protecting me though.

C’mon, Merritt. What did you think would happen? Even the tone of your post was clearly to “tattle” on her, and portray it in a negative light. Yikes!, as you’d say.

WOW, Merritt, what did I tell you before?? You are messing with peoples lives and in this town, this very small town, people don’t forget AND it’s not very nice. I’m with Matt, surely you can write about something beside your children and what they are doing this summer and ruining a cops life?????

We need to launch a “Save Suzanne” campaign a la “Save Ferris.” Her “crazy dream” is just that - a dream and I can’t imagine that it has any negative impact whatsoever on her ability to perform as a police officer. As the mother of a daughter who is constantly exposed to the sexualization of pre-teens, I would much rather have Officer Elwonger serve as a role model than Miley Cyrus or, God forbid, Jamie Lynn Spears.

    Sorry - Suzette, not Suzanne.

    Merritt,
I can assure you and everyone else who has expressed concern that Suzette’s job is not in jeapordy over this. I have asked her to have the site removed because it was done in violation of our written directives against using city or police department police positions or equipment (uniform etc.) for personal gain. This was conveyed to Suzette a week ago. Also, for eveyone else’s information, I was aware of this issue before Merritt posted it. I would guess alot of people were who google. In a recent training program for police chiefs at the Law Enforcement Management Institue at Sam Houston State University, one of the instructors recommended that all chiefs goodle their employees to see what might be out there. Unfortunately for Suzette, she failed to follow written guidelines before entering this venture.

Suzette is a wonderful broadcaster and represnts the community well. You don’t have to wait for this reality show to see this beautiful officer. She already gives her time to the soccer community as part of a show titled “North Texas Soccer Insider” You can see the show by clicking below:

    Hey Charles,

Isn’t she the blonde with the pony-tail?

  • JS

She obviously knew the website was there if she and a partner put it up. That being said, it would be silly for her to lose her job over this.

University Park needs more caring, dedicated officers like Suzette and she deserves the department and the citizens support! Suzette, YOU ROCK!
