It breaks my heart to hear about the parents who lost both children because the toddlers were able to open the house door and step outside unattended. According to this story, the father noticed the toddlers were missing, went outside and found them in the pool. It only takes a few minutes for a tragedy like this to occur.
How many times have parents, family members or babysitters become pre-occupied then realize the children they are “watching” are not where they should be? The little ones are later found playing in another room or wandering around outside, thankfully not yet in the street or pool. For $7.95 and a consistent use of the flip lock, you can protect your most valuable assets, your children. Join the trend and install one before it is too late.
I bought them at Lowe’s last week. It’s in the same area as the door latches and window locks. They don’t market it as a ‘tot’ lock, so it’s half the price and it also comes in white.
My sister put these latches near the top of the door so the kids can’t reach the latch.
This family had security locks on their doors and fences around the pool. The housekeeper or a relative forgot to lock the door.
Elizabeth’s comment is exactly why I mentioned consistent use. My sister constantly checks to see if the last person to walk in from the outside properly locks the door. Fences around or nets over a pool only work when they are used consistently. This accident is still a horrible tragedy. Hearing the family had those security items makes an even bigger statement that adults must be vigilant in protecting their children. Having and using consistently are 2 different things
