Jason, as a matter of fact, my source was not a Kuby’s waitress. But you’re welcome for sending that breaking, possibly true, news so that no other could claim knowing about it first. If it’s true, I think you owe me donut.

Terrible news! For years the yin and yang of hamburger styles (Jack’s and Balls) have been right across the alley from each other. This will destroy Snider Plaza’s burger feng shui!
ld@ June 19th, 2008 at 12:23 pm
At least it’s a) not a bank
b) already leased
c) not Yum donuts, that new place on Lovers, which has really BAD donuts.
JS@ June 19th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
My wife and I went to Ball’s a few times. Nothing really great about their burgers and they were really small. Even my wife who has a relatively small appetite was still hungry after eating their burger. I never want to see a business owner forced to close, but there was too much competition for them to survive.

Weren’t we just talking about doughnuts and holes yesterday on the FrontBurner?

Still give me Mustang!

JS, I’m not quite sure which burger you ordered. Balls has excellent sliders, called “Littleleaguers” which are indeed small. However 3 will usually do the trick and 7 is way to many.
Balls also has the regular sized hamburger that is very thick and served medium rare unless you order differently. Very good sized, a bit bigger than a Jack’s Burger House burger, roughly comparable to the size of a Who’s Who burger.
And if that’s not enough, I believe there’s a half or a whole pound burger on the Balls menu as well.
Yes, Gadfly. Alan Peppard is a doughnut, and Tim’s an a hole.
Topham Beauclerk@ June 19th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
JS, I think you must have eaten Balls’ “Little Leaguer” burgers. Their standard fare has (had) quite a lot of steer in it.

Dunkin’ Donuts are the worst, especially when compared with a Krispy Kreme doughnut. I find it incredibly easy to walk away from a Dunkin’ Donut, but I’d never be able to pass on a Krispy Kreme (unless I’d just seen a roach scurry across it and maybe not even then). Still, what a relief that it’s not another bank.
Ok, it’s not the doughnuts at Dunkin… it’s the COFFEE!!! Their iced coffee is to die for and is only $2. (my iced grande soy hazlenut latte at starbucks is pushing $4)
I have not stepped foot in a Dunkin Donuts since a friend and I thought it would be a good idea to end a night of drinking there many, many years ago. Needless to say, beer & donuts is NOT a good combination, especially on carpet.

Erin, how does one know that one wants an “iced grande soy hazlenut latte” in the first place? I can’t get past the bold drip because I’d be too afraid I’d spend twice as much money and wouldn’t like the product.
ld@ June 19th, 2008 at 11:29 pm
Went to the Krispy Kreme next to Central Market two months ago. The service was bad, the place smelled of disinfectant and the donuts tasted of semi-rancid oil. Ugh. I agree with old man. Mustang has nothing to fear.
I agree with Erin, too. Dunkin’s coffee is great, and so are the bagels.
“bravery expansion”

I think it’s the rumor of the day, probably started by the bank that leased the property…
I’m not sure hwo I came up with the soy hazelnut drink… it just happened. But, it is magical.

I think it would fail . on the rare occasion i let myself have a donut, i will go to mustang. we need something else there!

I do not know why eveybody is is impressed with Ball’s. I ate in there for the first time a couple of weeks ago and I thought it was horrible. I couldn’t even finish it because it was so dry. As for the Dunkin Donuts that is going in there; I think it will do just fine. Dunkin is way better than Krispy Kreme and F.Y.I, all there donuts are baked. There is also new locations off of 635 & Preston.

Here is something to mull…
Heard today at Jack’s that the buzz is positive for Dunkin’ Donuts but not such good news for Peggy Sue’s which is being sacrificed in place of another bank.
Dunkin’ Donuts seems to rule the Northeast, especially in Massachusetts and Connecticut. I wonder how they’ll do in the heart of the PC?
I bet most of their customers will be smu kids. Not the parkie barbie.
NO, NOT BALLS!!!! DAMNIT, does everything have to change????
