As an avid concert-goer who actually shows up to see the opening band(s) on a bill, I can tell you that they seem to be getting better and better.
Case in point last night’s opener for Death Cab for Cutie at Nokia. It was a band I had honestly never heard of called Rogue Wave. And, despite having a generic band name that doesn’t exactly tip the scales of creativity, they were fantastic. Really good, solid music.
It turns out Rogue Wave has three CDs out, which surprised me a bit because they haven’t really hit it big. I think it’s only a matter of time before people know about this band.
For me, the show came on the heels of two shows with phenomenal opening act(s). I recently saw Elvis Costello open up for The Police, and Lupe Fiasco, N/E/R/D and Rihanna open for KanYe West.
Keep those sold opening acts coming. BTW, Death Cab was awesome.  Â
Readers might be interested to know that one of the Rogue Wave-rs (Gram LeBron) is from right here in Dallas! Ok, Garland. And I agree, they were outstanding last night!
Rogue Wave is genius, so I’m glad they’re getting a shout out on the blog. I got married last weekend in Mexico, and we definitely sent our DJ a couple of RW songs for the dinner.
Gram LeBron of Rogue Wave is from Garland, so there’s your Texas connection to this awesome band who rocked the house last night! Death Cab wasn’t too shabby either…
Saw two people there last night I thought were older than me. Called “sir” no less than 5 times - what a nice group of young kids- this rock and roll may be something.
I spent a little time before the concert at the iTunes store listening to 30 second snippets of Rogue Wave - that 15 -20 minutes made me want to get to the concert on time - and I was not disappointed.
DCFC rocked a lot harder than their albums - very cool show.
On the flip side of your great opening bands I give you
two of the biggest concerts of the last twelve months -
Fiction Plane (First Police Go Round)
Liars (Radiohead)
Boy, did they suck.
