Jessica Simpson vs. Cody Linley

This has been quite a week for Parkie-razzi. Cody and Jessica are hot sightings but which is more impressive? I vote Cody. Jason, we need to have a contest. You know, who can spot the biggest celeb in summer ‘08, something like that.

Overheardian Spies on Celebrity

From an airborne Overheardian, via Merritt:

Overheardian on American Airlines flight 759 scheduled to arrive DFW at 7:10 p.m. from NYC sends this:

“On flight from New York with Ms. Simpson.  She’s scrolling thru pictures on her phone.  Head down in hand.  Doesn’t look happy.  Saw pic of Tony Romo on screen.”

Breaking Foodie News

I just received word that executive chef Tom Fleming of Central 214 at the Palomar has resigned “to pursue other opportunities.” This is sad news. I recently spent an afternoon with Fleming and his family for a Homes and Estates article. He’s a great guy with a great family.

Apparently, a national chef search is now underway to find his replacement. Anyone want to guess who will fill his shoes?

Maureen Decherd Update

We’ve all been wondering about and praying for Maureen Decherd since the tragic accident on Beverly last October. Here is an update.

Cathy Bryce to Retire as HPISD Super

OK. Below is the official release from Highland Park ISD. Look for more in this week’s print product. I have to say that Cathy Bryce has always been a pleasure to work with, and that Park Cities People wishes her the best. The district will be hard-pressed to find another superintendent as invested in caring for children as is Dr. Bryce:

As she begins her eighth year at the helm of Highland Park ISD, Superintendent Dr. Cathy Bryce is announcing her retirement.

The Board of Trustees is beginning its search for a new superintendent, and Dr. Bryce will remain in her role as superintendent in order to give the trustees ample time to find a replacement.

Big, Big News Coming — Maybe

There’s nothing quite like the thrill of being in a newsroom when a major story breaks. When we’ve been told information that we know the public is going to be interested in hearing, and we’re scrambling last-minute to adjust our previously best-laid plans. It’s what makes working for a newspaper a lot of fun.

Am I implying that we’re sitting on a piece of information like that at this very moment?

Ask me in a couple hours. Developing…

Re: Mike Snyder Responds

It is interesting, isn’t it Mike, how some people stoop to name calling instead of engaging in public discourse.  Like, for instance, the headline of your post:  “The toll of arrogance. The mayor of Highland Park does not get it.”  Many people might infer that you are calling the mayor of Highland Park arrogant.  (Personally, I don’t know the man.  Maybe he is, maybe he isn’t.).

Actually, you went further to call Mayor Seay “arrogant at best, snobby at worst.”  Again, I don’t know the man, so you could be right, but is there any doubt that you have engaged in name-calling rather than civil discourse?

Also, I’m glad that you are “capable of admitting mistakes,” like getting the mayor’s name wrong.  God knows I make mistakes all the time myself, especially with names.  But you point out that the “name callers” don’t do the same.  Which mistakes did they make?

Mike Snyder Responds

I respect his willingness to defend his position. Since it’s clear he was relying on this distorted reporting by the field reporter at his station, I won’t hold it too much against him:

Interesting how some people will stoop to name calling instead of engaging in civil discourse. I will not dignify the ugly comments made about me on your blog with a direct response to those name callers. Their statements speak for themselves.

I am sometimes disappointed to discover I am human and quite capable of making mistakes. The difference between me and the name callers is I admit my mistakes, correct the errors and move on. I did misidentify Mayor Seay, sworn in just a month ago. I had grown accustom to associating HP with Mayor White. I am sorry for that error and correction made. Read my blog http://snurl.com/2ez5y.

I was not at last night’s meeting, but our reporter and camera were, and in an interview video taped and aired on NBC-5, Mayor Seay said the toll idea for Mockingbird Lane, while not likely any time soon, is “still on the table.” You can parse those words any way you like, but that is what the Mayor said on video tape. Are we not to believe your mayor, or was he just joking?
