It’s official. The iPhone 3G will be available in stores July 11. The new phone kicks it up a notch from its predecessor, with high speed wireless 3G capabilities, maps with GPS navigation, and new applications available from the online “App Store.”
Most importantly, the price. The new iPhone starts at $199, quite a bargain considering you get a phone, PDA, Internet, iPod-thingy all in one.
And for all you old iPhone owners, there’s something in store for you too. iPhone 2.0, a new software upgrade will be available on July 11, and will give you access to many of the new software features of the new iPhone.
Charles, can I have your old one?
Hm, I was just thinking that. Of course, the new one isn’t available until July. Unless I can get one on the black market.
Charles, Why do you have to bring race into this?
FYI - per the sales guy at the apple store on Knox, all the new apps can be purchased online and the “new” speed only loads pages 2-3 seconds faster than predecessor. GPS maps, etc can also be bought per an upgrade on the itunes website. Happy Shopping!
Charles, I see the new iPhone will start at $199. Yours…$799 or something like that?
Merritt, for you, I’d sell you my slightly-used iPhone for only $500.
iGeek: so you’re saying I can get all the new features on my old iphone and only have a little less speed?
iGeek: Actually the difference in speed is much greater. Someone (you) must not have watched the iPhone 3G announcement that is posted very clearly on Apple.com. The announcement at WWDC clearly showed the 3G speeds approaching WiFi. Plus, GPS cannot be obtained on the older iPhone through any means of download. the best you are going to get with that is triangulation which may show you which part of town you are in but thats about it. The iPhone 3G deserves quite a bit more credit than you give it. Just because you may not want it ATM certainly does not mean you should be distributing misinformation about the product. The apple website has bee updated for quite sometime now indicating and displaying all sorts of new features for the 3g. I suggest that all who are interested check out that information before listening to some seemingly chronic nay-sayer in a forum.
