Half-Price Medical Information

Man, I just got a great lesson in being more careful when dumping books at Half-Price Books.  A lawyer friend of mine here in Dallas wrote me an email asking if I’d made it to my dental appointment last February, and referred to the dentist by name.  It turns out I’d left my reminder card in a book I’d been reading, and he bought the very book at Half-Price Books.   I’m sure I’ve used old bills and Lord knows what else as bookmarks over the years.

I wonder if HIPAA can fine you for breaking your own confidentiality. You know, fines begin at $50,000!

Actually, Miles, I was considering a lawsuit against Half Price Books for disseminating the information. (And for my conservative, anti-litigation friends out there, I’m just kidding).

It could have been a lot worse:

Rodney, thanks for the link, that was great. One benefit of my having switched my reading medium of choice to Amazon’s Kindle device is that I no longer lose bookmarks.
