Runners-Up

And now the question becomes (other than the question about who will lure Hillary to Siberia by telling her there’s one more primary there and it’s full of poor, uneducated white people, and I’m just kidding, please), who will each nominee choose for a VP? Personally, I’d love to see Obama pick Bill Richardson. I wouldn’t presume to suggest someone for McCain, but maybe James can weigh in here. Colin Powell would be a canny choice, but I don’t see him doing it.  Probably McCain will pick the Florida governor.  What do you think?

Both parties have approached Jim Jones (NATO), but he has been unwilling to commit to either party.

I think Hillary is doing an injustice to the party by not graciously conceding. Is she trying to wreck things so she can run again in 4 years?

I think John McCain should choose Jim Cary of Liar, Liar.

Wouldn’t it be great if Obama picked Colin Powell?? Double historical!! Actually triple, 2 black men and 1 jumped parties. I like Richardson also! Don’t think there’s a Republican in this country that can help McCain. IJS

No more primaries but still one more caucus. The Texas Democratic convention this weekend will determine something like a third of Texas’s delegates to Denver. As of last week the Clinton campaign was still contesting Obama delegates from the county conventions.

I agree that Colin Powell would be Obama’s dream pick from my perspective but there have been no indications he’s interested. He’d help with a lot of the independents but might not be helpful with the “white” vote Hillary has cultivated/stirred up.

Crist would probably be the best pick for McCain except for that he’s not married (not that anything’s wrong with that). Not sure how that would impact the conservative vote although I do know the conservatives like him. I can picture now the “what’s wrong with him?” press coverage. Maybe he could organize a quickie engagement to an eligible young lady - Chelsea would be an interesting pick.

Obama should pick Jim Webb. He is a decorated military veteran who would bolster Barack’s national security credentials. And Webb’s no-nonsense approach to politics presents a strong counterweight to John McCain. Plus, he’s a senator from a battleground state (Virginia), and he’s new to Washington, which comports with Obama’s “bringing change to the White House” moniker.

Maybe H.Clinton or Pelosi for Obama, and Mitt for McCain. Webb has had a problem with women, so he might not help Obama win over the Clinton supporters.

I haven’t thought much about McCain’s running mate. I am still trying to deal with the shock that McCain is the republican nominee and Obama is the democrat nominee. Dubious choices for both parties as far as I am concerned.
