I’ve said from the beginning that I would hold on until the bitter, bitter end. And now the time has come. Charles, where’s my Obama sign? You could save me the pain by just putting it in my yard while I’m at work tomorrow.

Isn’t Charles is out-of-state, setting up the PC Bank branch in San Diego (or continuing his tour of golf courses)?
Possible yard sign (quoting a Huffington Post blogger): “Hillary would make a great ambassador to Bosnia because she’s such a hard working white person, as far as I know.”
Merritt, you had me at “hello.” And, I eagerly anticipated our meetings at Kuby’s, blackberry messages in the night, your weekly articles - the best ever! But, alas, you were just a fantasy girl. It is over, wrecked, gone. Obama?

Charles is out of state, and he is canvassing some Southern California golf courses. I golf so you don’t have to. And I do intend to go to La Jolla tomorrow and plant a PC Bank sign in front of a La Jolla Bank, like an astronaut claiming the moon for the USofA.
Merritt, I’m pleased, but not surprised, that you have more class, and more of an ability to recognize reality, than does Hillary.

While you’re there, Charles, check out more of those California laws about leaf blowers. I can’t hear myself think here (but maybe there’s nothing to hear).

Attawaytogo, Merritt!!

Good for you Merritt, if the left wing liberal that you support cannot be the candidate, then any left wing liberal will do. With Obama in the White House and Nancy, Barbara and Harry in Congress, I can see the water level dropping, feel the temperature falling and my wallet emptying.
Merritt, I feel the same way. Obama, it is, with a tear in my eye. She almost did it, though. Now I feel guilty that I didn’t have the courage to put a Hillary sign in my yard. It’s true for me that any left-wing dem is better than no dem.

Pardon my incredulity, Stan, but your wallet is and has been filling with great rapidity and at a pace that could be attributed to Bush and the GOP?

Perhaps Stan works for Halliburton?
Stan/Tx@ June 5th, 2008 at 6:47 pm
Dear Bethany and Charles,
Thank you for your interest but my wallet has been filled as result of my work in the oil industry since I graduated. This has been despite the best efforts of the politicians in Washington DC, both Democrats and Republicans, to take an unfair share for their own use.
In my opinion, Mr. Obama is running on a platform of smoke and mirrors, short on specifics and long on oratory and feelings. He has said that he plans to raise my income taxes, social security taxes, company taxes and increase the size of government. There is nothing there about reducing government and letting citizens profit from their own hard work. Here comes the socialist utopia again. The fact that it has never worked in history does not mean that we should not try again – right?
The slow down in the economy that is partly media driven, comes after a long run of prosperity. I think that President Bush deserves some credit for that. However, the republicans deserve to get their derrières kicked for spending like drunken democrats and not making an effort to reduce government spending. The voters are sending that message in the mid term elections.
My assumption that the Halliburton reference is a backhanded attempt to say I earned my money from the government contract in Iraq? Please be more direct with the insults in the future as I am just a simple engineer and I may miss the intended slight. Since you raise the Halliburton issue, perhaps you will enlighten me as to what other company could have been employed to support our troops in Iraq. How about Schlumberger? They were in an excellent position to do the work and earn the US dollars for France.

Stan, I think the Halliburton reference was just picking a company everyone knows has done well during this administration, with domestic and foreign contracts. Since your wallet, unlike many people’s wallets, is yet to be emptied, we guess you might work for one of the companies known to have done well. No insult intended to you or Cheney’s former firm, just political disagreement.

Dear Anon,
Had it been any other company in the world except Halliburton, I would agree with you. However, the Halliburton reference has been used throughout the Bush presidency to imply improper dealings between the government and private industry. By inference, when used as it was, it implies the person is involved in improper dealings.
The energy industry has had several years of successful growth. I have been fortunate to participate in that success. The energy pronouncements of the Democrats are, at best naive and at worst a disaster. It is really time for the US government to establish a sensible energy policy, pass the laws necessary to let free enterprise work and stop all subsidies to any form of energy production. If the alternative energy sources are not cost competitive with oil at $140 a barrel, then they will never be useful.
Regards,

I agree, we need a sensible energy policy, including honest cost/benefit analyses of alternatives.
