Last Minute Camp Ideas

Unlike the much maligned planner, Merritt Patterson, I have yet to secure summer day camps for my kids.  Does anyone have any ideas on what day camps are still available for middle school kids?

How about you, Gmom or MC - any thoughts? Boot camp? Rehab?

Yes, Kersten, Dallas County Juvenile runs a wonderful invitation only boot camp for teens with bad habits such as talking with their fists and skipping school. Although a bit substandard, accommodations are intriguely spartan. This fine resort is just south of Dallas in the Hutchins area so that drug-using parents can visit on weekends.

Oops, intriguely is not a word. How about insert your own word that is in a dictionary somewhere?

  • Kersten Rettig

That’s OK, you can use “intriguely.”

How about group therapy camps? Do you know of any? Not saying my kids need that but I might know of a few who do.

You may call Tazim Merchant, M.S., at 214-377-7070. She is with Aspen Education Group, a national group of 123 autonomous youth facilities. She will guide you per the needs of your kid(s).

    Hear that, Gmom?

  • Charles Geilich

Hey, I as a taxpayer resent funding camp for Kersten’s kids.

    Kersten,

I think the Park Cities Y day camps are all open. You can check out their camps at parkcitiesymca.org.

Sportsplex usually has some good sports camps and/or summer basketball & volleyball leagues. We have a few things scheduled, but mostly my kids will be living it up at Camp UP — the UP pool, Grandad’s pool, playing outside, etc.

  • Kersten Rettig

Sportsplex! I could not for the life of me remember the name of that place. Thanks, Jen!

Kersten, shouldn’t a PC mom have a professional scheduler for this sort of thing?

  • Jen

I think the website is http://www.sportsplexvv.com.

  • Merritt Patterson

Kersten, I thought I taught you better. This is disappointing to say the least.

  • Kersten Rettig

    I’m a failure as a mother, I know that. I can’t do it all - blog, work, parent . . . .

PS - My captcha words are time critic. Hear that, Merritt and Charles?
