Jeremy Gilbert was named the principal at Hyer Elementary May 27.

Gilbert comes to Highland Park ISD from Richardson ISD, where he served as principal at Wallace Elementary from 2004-2008 and as assistant principal at the same campus from 2002-2004. Wallace Elementary is a high-performing campus, named to the Honor Roll of the Texas Business & Education Coalition this year, as well as being named an Exemplary campus by the Texas Education Agency.

“Jeremy Gilbert brings a great deal of energy and talent to his new role as Hyer Elementary principal,” said HPISD Superintendent Dr. Cathy Bryce. “He has earned a reputation as a mentor, instructional leader and believer in collaboration, making him a wonderful fit for our district.”

Gilbert says he is looking forward to getting started at Hyer.

“I am excited and honored to serve as the new principal at Hyer Elementary.  This is a unique opportunity to join a school and school district that has enjoyed such a high level of success for many years,” he said. “I am looking forward to working with the students, teachers, and parents that make Highland Park ISD the most respected school district in the State of Texas.”

Gilbert earned a bachelor’s degree in interdisciplinary Studies from Texas A&M and a master’s degree in education administration from the University of North Texas. His wife, Anne, serves as a teacher in Richardson ISD. They have a 2-year-old son named Randall.

Okay, i am going to throw this out there. How come Hyer has had at least 3 consecutive male principals? Also, why are they the only elementary to have a male principal?

Even though he had a successful run as assistant principal, Gilbert’s firt year as principal at Wallace was a disaster:

    - fifth grade girls fighting in the lunchroom,
    - a fourth grader brought a gun to school,
    - teacher allowed kids to curse and make obscene gestures in class,
    - many teachers hired by this principal were fired at the end of his first year.

Hopefully, he has learned from his mistakes.

  • Be Wary of BeWary :)

BeWary is a silly person. Jeremy Gilbert is an excellent principal with a high degree of respect from all of his students, teachers and parents. The person named BeWary must hold grudges for some reason. I would be wary of people like BeWary :)

I have nothing but niceties to say about Mr. Gilbert and my sentiments are shared by 100’s of people! You, Hyer, are lucky to be getting such an excellent person!!!

You, Mr. Gilbert, will be missed!

    HPISD should feel very lucky!
When I first met Mr. Gilbert my son was entered first grade. My perception of him then and now is ” very bright, personable young man with a great future”.
Yes, his first year as assistant-principal was tough. The things BeWary mentioned happening in our public school did occur, similair events may have even happened his second year. However by the time he became Wallace Principal, third year, these events were eliminated.
Jeremy Gilbert is an exemplary principal!
He hires excellent staff and earns their respect. He corrected many student conduct problems and gained student and parent respect by giving respect.
HPISD should feel very lucky to have him in the district. Everyone has the right to their opinion. Just ask the many families in RISD about their opinions of Mr.G and I’m sure they would agree with my assessment.
