Vote For Survivor Jennifer Griffin

You all know Jennifer Griffin, an amazing survivor and subject of the January 11, 2008 Bulletin from the Bubble, Coffee With a Survivor. She sends this video that will no doubt stop you in your tracks:

Donna, my pilates instructor, has entered a video of her and I into a fitness inspiration competition. We would love to be able to teach and inspire others, all we need is your vote.  If you’re interested, just click on the link and vote for our video.

I Heart Gawker for Posting Craigslist Ads

gawker.JPGGawker directed attention to a Craigslist personal ad with photos of a guy flashing twenty dollar bills around. He titled the ad Mr. Right Iz Here Ladies. Well now the guy Iz Mad. He called Gawker, left a long message proving just how smart he is and Gawker posted that too. Turn your volume up and enjoy.

To date none of my Craigslist posts have been discovered by the actual author of the ad. But I’m ready.

Golf is Good

Simply because I now have a specific tag for this post, I would like to share with you a photograph I took on the golf course yesterday img_0220.JPGof a doting mother duck and her cute little ducklings.  It has nothing to do with anything.

I Love Rock and Roll

I just saw a magnificent performance by the Hyer Fourth-Graders of a musical revue called “Music Through the Ages.”  The kids dressed in period costumes (also known as the kind of clothes I wore just recently), and sang and danced with gusto.  There is one thing images.jpegthat bothers me, though.  Why was Joan Jett considered an oldie?  She’s just as relevant as she ever was.

WFAA Asks People Newspapers to Report For Them

Lovely Lakewood/Lake Highlands reporter Sarah Scott just received the following email from WFAA assignments editor Gary Nichols:

Sarah,
If you find the time, could you call and let me know what happens at the meeting tonight ?
Thanks.

Seriously? Seriously? Are the cutbacks at Belo that bad? I think I’ll call John McCaa and ask him for some hot tips tonight.

HPISD Cinema

A couple of weeks ago one of my kids said they watched the Alvin and the Chipmunks movie at school- the whole thing. Then last night one of the other kids said they watched Where the Red Fern Grows- start to finish. And it’s not even the last day or week of school. That’s awesome.

Does “Cody” Translate into Japanese?

Highland Park junior golfer Cody Gribble has already had a career that would make most any golfer drool.

Gribble added another accolade by being selected to play for the United States in the World Junior Team Championship June 18-21 in Japan.

Gribble, who won the Class 4A invidiual state title to help the Scots win as a team at the state tourney earlier this month, is the lone Texan on the team.

He is currently ranked No. 4 in the American Junior Golf Association. Gribble, who was also recently selected as a first-team Rolex Junior All-American, won a pair of tournaments last year.

Weber Honored by Texas Girls Coaches Association

Highland Park senior Alex Weber has been named a Class 5A/4A track and field all-star.

Weber earned a trip to the state meet in the pole vault. She finished sixth with a height of 10-6. She won district and finished second at regionals to earn a trip to Austin.

Weber will be honored at the TGCA Summer Clinic, which will be held July 8-11 in Arlington.

PH Pit Bull Owners Sue Ebby Halliday, Victim

In an exclusive story you’ll only find on peoplenewspapers.com, [at least until Channel 5 swipes it] NEW Ace Preston Hollow Reporter Josh Hixson and myself report that John and Cathy Harris, owners of the two pit bulls that attacked two pedestrians over the course of five weeks in Preston Hollow, have filed a lawsuit against their real estate agency, Ebby Halliday, Realtors, Ebby Halliday Realtor Karen Smiley, and attack victim Debbie O’Connor.

The Harrises claim Halliday officials failed to secure their home after a showing, which led to their the two dogs escape and attack of a man walking his dog. The suit also says O’Connor exaggerated the extent of her injuries, and claims she and Smiley, who is not the Harrises’ agent, made defamatory statements about the couple.

Highland Park Spring Football Game Tonight

The Highland Park football team will wrap up spring practice at 7:30 tonight with the annual Blue-Gold game at Highlander Stadium. The freshmen will start the scrimmage at 6 p.m.

The Scots finished 15-1 last season, losing only to Austin Lake Travis, 36-34, in the Class 4A Division II title game. HP returns just three starters from that team this coming season — DB Matt Bonano, DB Jeff Howeth and OL Chris Calandro.

HP will scrimmage Plano West on Aug. 22. The Scots open the regular season Aug. 30 against Red Oak in the Tom Landry Classic at SMU’s Ford Stadium. HP will be gunning for the 700th win in program history against the Hawks.

Tough Night in Cali For Young

Ex-Scot Chris Young didn’t exactly have a night to remember on Wednesday when he started for the San Diego Padres against the St. Louis Cardinals.

Young dropped to 4-4 on the season after taking the loss, but to add injury to insult, he took a line drive to the face. It’s unclear whether or not Young will miss any games because of the injury.

Scary moment for Chris. Here’s hoping he’s OK.

Blackberry Etiquette

blackberry.JPG

I’ve been told it’s rude to initiate an e-mail of importance, unless an emergency, from your handheld device when you have one of those automatic messages that says sent from my i-phone or sent from my Blackberry. I think it shows that the message is so important you’re willing to type with your thumbs on the run. No?

Quick … Get to Kuby’s…

Merritt says there’s a guy there who has the deal of a lifetime:

There is a salesman next to me meeting with a couple and I don’t know what the product is but he said, “I’m convinced it’s a miracle, everyone thinks I’m on anti-depressants.”

Then a moment ago, “It’s not your typical network marketing, you just refer people to try it and then it sells itself.” That is a miracle.
