After a movie just a little while ago at Northpark mall, I was exiting with my kids between Kona Grill and Luna De Noche and we noticed police and security guards combing the inside of the mall. Stores were closed so the search was in the main areas.
When we reached the outside there were police cars everywhere, an area marked off with yellow tape (the Nordstrom exit that faces east, diagonal from Kona Grill) and a growing media presence. Before we hit the parking lot my husband stopped and asked a valet what all the excitement was about. He said, “A woman just got shot in the face.”
Another valet kindly escorted my family to our car without being asked. It seemed they were all working very hard to minimize risk to those leaving during the chaos.
Reports indicate that police are searching for the carjacking suspect who is still on the run. They are searching the entire area including nearby neighborhoods.
UPDATE: Slightly more recent reports say the victim was a 43 year old woman waiting in her running truck for her daughter to come out of the movie theatre. She was able to drive to the valet stand for help.
This channel 8 video mentions a period of time when people were not allowed to leave the mall but the exits were re-opened when it was deemed safe again. I don’t really get that since they hadn’t found the suspect but I’m sure they know what they’re doing.
me and friends were standing by the bushes and cops searched through with guns and found the man lying in the bushes
I too was at Northpark at the time of the shooting… before they had everything marked off and they were loading the woman in to an ambulance and cops were arriving my the minute. We proceeded to watch a movie which was interuppted by the police looking for the suspect. It’s a scary situation and one you never expect to happen. I’m thankful for the police presence that showed and hope they catch the guy they’re looking for.
We were driving into the parking lot of NorthPark, when we noticed all these police officers and a helicopter circling NorthPark. When we got near valet parking we noticed a area maked off with caution tape and a car with bullets and a shaddered window. When we got upstairs to the movie we asked a couple of police officers what happened and they said it was just a car robbery. so we went to the movie theater then our other friends texted us saying “The guy is still in the mall.” So we went outside the theater and called our brother who was in a different movie, but we didn’t know which one. We called our dad and he said he was on his way. Two teenagers came with us to ask the police man if we could leave and they said “The downstairs is all clear but he is in the theater.” One of the teenagers we were with started freaking out because upstairs and they didn’t know where. Then when got downstairs we noticed they weren’t letting anyone in. When we saw our dad he asked what made us want to leave and we told him the story. Then we started freaking out because our brother was still upstairs, but luckly he was safe. It was the scarriest moment of our life, considering we are only 12 years old.
the woman that was shot at the mall was close friends, latest word is she’s had some reconstructive surgery to sinus cavities, expected to live…. she was from Waxahachie, and if anyone knows anything please contact athorties….10,000$ reward…. thanks for your consideration
I was also at Northpark at the time of the shooting. My friends and I came out of a movie and walked around for a while and notice police standing around everywhere but didn’t think anything of it. Once we found out that our ride was there we proceeded outside. When we got outside we saw ambulances, police cars, and search helicopters. My friend asked what happened the valet said she got shot in the face.
We were all scared. I have heard many other stories and i am not exactly sure what happened all i know is she got shot in th face and taken away by the ambulance. very very scary
OH MY GOD….. a woman was shot in the face…. This happens every 20 seconds in cities all over the planet. All of a sudden its a scary world cause its NORTH PARK. Get a grip on reality people! Crime is about PEOPLE not where you live. Criminals look just like everyone else and they don’t discriminate based on neighborhoods. Step outside of your sheltered lives and find out what the rest of the world deals with everyday, you might not be so shocked when it happens again. If you ask me she should have just got out of the truck, but apparently her possession was more valuable than her life so she paid the price for it. What do you think INSURANCE is for? Fake security at the mall too busy looking for blacks and hispanics that “DONT BELONG” and forgot to look past mere appearances and focus on behavior. Your mall and your neighborhood got EXACTLY what its paying for, overpaid, under-experienced, civilians with badges and uniforms.
i only have 1 word to describe the event
owned
OMG. THAT IS MY FAVORITE MALL IN DALLAS. I LOVE IT. THANK GOD I WASN’T THERE THAT DAY. EVER SINCE THAT HAPPEND, I HAVEN’T BEEN THERE IN 3 OR 4 MONTHS. NEXT TIME, I GO THERE I’M GOING TO BE VERY CAREFUL OF WHERE I GO BECAUSE I’M 16 AND I DRIVE SO I GO PLACES BY MYSLF. THAT’S REALLY SCARY.
Whoever had the nerve to leave such a prejudiced remark on this site is ignorant and selfish. How do you know that other people’s comments were based on location, economic stature, and lifestyle? It appears as jealousy to me, since over 50 percent of the demographics around this area are not made up by the wealthy. You should think a little bit before making such rash remarks, and maybe take in a little consideration for others, like the woman was shot, and not her worrying about her posessions, but perhaps her children and pets who were in the car with her, and the people who actually witnessed and identified the person who did this merciless crime. Take a minute to reflect on that……
