I am pleased to report that, after at least two and a half months of everyday watering, the sprinklers at the house on the corner of Marquette and Hillcrest were off today. This is progress.

Does anyone really care?
Charles Geilich@ May 15th, 2008 at 9:24 am
Probably only the people who plan to drink water in the future, MC.

Sometimes it takes small steps and persistence to be successful. Good work, Charles!
if you could just do something about all these leaf blowers. where’s that lady with the music? Is she out yet?

Ah, Jethro, I wish I could do something about the leafblowers. I suspect that someday they will banished, voluntarily or by law, but it won’t be the PC leading the way.

I don’t think MC plans to drink water here in the future. I’m guessing s/he can’t wait to leave town after graduation this month.
Several years back, Ronnie Brown, excellent head of parks, garbage collection, etc. for HP (I don’t know his title), instituted a voluntary noise reduction plan for leaf blowers. Seems like crews agreed to run them at half the noise levels for a while. You could check with him about how it worked and maybe see if UP will try it.
What if leaf blowers could be used only by residents? You could threaten your neighbors’ hearing and tranquility only if you were willing to hammer your own. As for me, I rake. (Does that make me rakish?)

Uhm I care, and can make your feel really bad about not caring if you want, but I won’t. So yay Charles!

Good job. See, community blogs can serve a positive function. They don’t have to be all about the self-important mockery of others.

Why so anti leaf blower? Are they louder than the lawn mower?
well now that you mention it, i am a huge fan of the electric mower.
Charles Geilich@ May 16th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
The only problem I had with my electric mower is that I kept running over the cord. But, you know, that’s just me.

Not just you, Charles. I also have run over my cord with my electric mower. I have not abandoned it, though, since it is quieter and lighter. I’m just being more careful, keeping that cord on the right since I tend to lean left, like James says this blog does.
