Re: Dear Richardson Resident Amanda Tackett,

As it turns out, the nasty e-mail I received and shared with Overheardians this morning is really chapter 2 of the story. At about 3:00 today I realized chapter 1 was written in 1987. See, now I know that Amanda is the same Mandi from high school who terrorized me with horrid punk rock-ish music in carpool. I was very mainstream and stuck to things like Bon Jovi and Madonna. Mandi was very Circle Jerks, Butthole Surfers and the like.

Can I really listen to the Butthole Surfers on my way to chapel? I think not.

So, the joke was on me. Score one for Mandi Amanda.

Gimme My Coffee! Now!

Wow, I heard someone order a four-shot venti latte today at Starbucks.  Wouldn’t that actually lift your feet off the ground and cause 53_1_b.JPGyour hair to crackle?

NTTA to Shut Down Portions of Tollway for Construction

From the good folks at the NTTA:

NTTA Traffic Advisory

During this time, crews will be switching traffic lanes as new ramps and lanes are now ready for use.

Southbound right lane from Lemmon Avenue to Maple Avenue will be closed from 8 p.m. on Tuesday, May 13 through 5 a.m. on Wednesday, May 14. The southbound Wycliff Avenue exit ramp and the southbound Lemmon Avenue entrance ramp will also be closed during this time. (more…)

Signs of the Times

Yesterday, while lunching in the Knox Street area (within the very penumbra of the PC), I noticed a trend in window advertising: the use of quotations and other pithy text. Except that the text isn’t so pithy. For example,

American Social Norms Confuse Local Italian Shoe Repairer

This in from an irritated Overheardian:

A word of warning to anyone who is looking to get their shoes re-heeled.

I had been meaning to get a few pairs of high-heels re-heeled for quite some time. Being somewhat new to Dallas and not knowing where to take them, I took a gamble. I drove past a shoe repair place on Lemmon Ave [Nicko's Italian Custom Shoe Repair] and decided to check it out. “Shoe repair,” “fine Italian craftsmanship,” “same day service,” were some of the signs posted in the window boasting their services, so I decided to finally go in and get my shoes fixed.

I walked into the shop, which felt like stepping back in time. Everything in the shop was circa 1920, including the owner. To top it off, there were (more…)

Eat at Tin Star Toady (Today)

Don’t forget, you don’t need to cook tonight. Eat at Tin Star in Preston Center for dinner and help support Ryan Michael and his search for a kidney donor.

And their vegetable quesadillas are to die for.

Dear Richardson Resident Amanda Tackett,

I’m accustomed to less-than-sweet feedback here and there; it’s part of the gig. But this one in response to last week’s column surprised me because of how totally wicked it was and because of who wrote it. The author is Amanda Tackett. I Googled her when I got the e-mail and was shocked to discover that she is a Richardson resident and contributor for cousin pub D Magazine. That makes her mean e-mail just plain unprofessional.

Subject: careful…

Well, Since the Cat’s Out of the Bag Anyway

Candy Evans broke it, but I saw it first. I spent a few minutes yesterday in Avery Johnson’s condo at the Ritz.  It was really gorgeous. I loved the colors and pieces that were put together in the rooms. There were several padded walls, lots of shades of greens, and apparently everything, including the electronics, will be sold with the condo. The Johnsons spent a lot of time picking out everything and making their place perfect, just to put it on the market.

Realtor Jamie Adams said he was sad to see Avery go. He said he was a great guy. Adams, who has 40 percent of his work come from athletes, said he sees a lot of sad stories in sports. He once had a young player who bought his first home and arranged for his non-English speaking girlfriend to attend TCU and the day he was moving in, he got the call telling him he had been traded. Talk about a tough day.

Diamonds and Gold

192.jpgLocal jewelry designer Elizabeth Showers is up for Best Newcomer in the Town and Country Couture Design Awards. The collection up for the award is her 18-carat collection, which includes the lemon quartz and diamond pendant pictured.

The winner is determined by votes, so if you wish to support the local artist, vote for the collection by May 21.

Orangecup Deliciousness

Since Merritt posted this little tidbit, I’ve been dying to try it. So last night, Hutson and I, along with a former People Newspapers/now turned cousin of ours, went to the mall to try it out.  It’s kind of awesome. And the best part? After you place your order, they print off the nutrition facts and put it on the cup. If you’d like a light natural with granola and raspberries, it’s 117 calories. If you’re hankering for the zum yogurt with strawberries and raspberries, it’s 107 calories.

And just in case you’re wondering, Made of Honor is sold out on a Monday evening. Who knew that would happen?
