The Bubble or Not?

I need some votes on this reader inquiry concering today’s Bulletin From the Bubble. I think this guy is “welcome” around here because we’re nice but he lives in a gray area and needs to stay low profile with his exact address. Or he could move to the real Park Cities?

Ms. Patterson,

I read your article, and I have intuitively felt that way since my wife and I moved to HP.  But as I read your article you said…..” Anyone is accepted here as long as their zip code ends in 25 or 05 and their street name doesn’t start with “W,” the abbreviation for west, as in West Beverly or west of the toll road.  Well, my wife and I live at [address], 75209 which is in West Highland Park.  Do you mean that we are not considered part of HP and that we are not welcome here?  HP actually has several zip codes, that include, 75205, 75219, and 75209. I would appreciate your kind clarification.  In advance, thank you and,

Respectfully submitted.

Highland Park does include some addresses in the 75209 zip code. You are afforded the luxury of HP fire and police but do not have to pay the taxes for HP schools (school district is Dallas). It’s the 4600 block of all streets south of Mockingbird between Westside and the toll road. If you live on the west side of Westside, you are on your own…Dallas police and fire.

I learn something new on this blog every day. I knew there were parts of Dallas in HPISD, but I did not know that there was any part of HP in DISD.

RL, thanks for the map. In my limited amount of page 2 space I felt the “west” thing would cover it for that part of town.

The real HP is ‘05 only. The real UP is ‘25 only. If your not in the district, your not in the Park Cities. That said, the internet is open to the public. Everyone is welcome! But when “outsiders” post a comment to the Park Cities People blog, they should be open and honest about their Park Cities adjacent status.

Actually Resident, I’m 05 and I’m technically on the UP side of the street. I’m being totally serious, where I live if you’re on the south side of the street you’re HP and if you’re on the north you’re UP.

PS- My captcha words are “disagrees with”! Ha!

The HP/DISD area (aka West Highland Park) has always been the step sister that we love but don’t like to talk about. I’ve always thought it was a requirement for people of WHP to clearly identify themselves. All the ones I have met do - they don’t want to be HPISD-posers. They DO still get to use the HP Pool (not as great as UP but still something) and the HP Library so that’s nice.

    Dear Resident,

Please learn how to use the contraction for “you are.” Here’s an example: “Resident, you’re an illiterate *****.”

    Thanks.

@CC Yeah, funny how that is! Another example, the 4300 block of Potomac is split east/west. I’m not sure which zip code that is.

@Topham. Ouch. I guess I shouldn’t be posting at midnight.

I thought that everything north of Lovers is 05 and south of Lovers is 25.

    Captcha words: pooled fascinate!

  • ld

Oops. North of Lovers is 25 and south is 05

  • Lakewooder

I hate to break the news to Resident but some consider the Park Cities merely Lakewood adjacent.

  • CC

    Where is Lakewood?
